RECREATION COORDINATOR
Center for Developmentally Disabled (CDD) / Rainbow Center is a private, not-for-profit corporation founded in 1972. CDD provides residential care services and day habilitation to adults with developmental disabilities in the greater Kansas City, MO area.

The hourly rate of the Recreation Coordinator will earn $17 to $19 per hour, all of which is grant dependent. If the grant is not funded after one year, the position could be eliminated.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective
Recreation Coordinator will work with individuals who receive services, staff, and volunteers to address community activities objectives in Individual Support Plans (ISP) and plan other activities as requested. Activities will address the physical, social/interpersonal, emotional, vocational and intellectual interests of individuals in services. Responsible for providing assistance in planning, scheduling, and execution of activities. Will provide outcomes data information for community engagement activities.
Essential Functions

  • Plan annual activities such as the Scavenger Hunt, picnic and Advocacy Day;
  • Manage and Coach Special Olympics team(s);
  • Provide opportunities for travel and leisure vacations that fulfills dreams of program participants;
  • Provide teams with suggested activities to address ISP outcomes;
  • With assistance from the Director of Development, coordinate volunteer activities as needed;
  • Coordinate with Program Teams to collect all community engagement outcomes;
  • Chaperone trips as requested;
  • Provide written documentation in ISPs as needed;
  • Write newsletter articles as appropriate;
  • Provide outcomes data information as requested.

This position as no supervisory responsibility
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Physical Demands
The employee is occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, climb or bend. The employee must frequently lift and/or move 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Also requires stepping up into commercial passenger vans.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full time position. Day and hours of work are typically Monday-Friday with the understanding that weekend work is expected and Monday-Friday hours can be flexed.
Travel
Travel in and out of state is expected and driving throughout the metropolitan area as needed.
Required Education and Experience
  • High school diploma/GED with at least three years paid experience planning for small and large events.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies; Tourism, Leisure and Event Planning; Hospitality; Recreation, Park and Tourism Management or like degree. At least 2 years working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
