Job description
Responsibilities:
- Engage with residents throughout the day to encourage attendance and participation in daily activities.
- Gather residents for activities, games, performances etc.
- Encourage and lead intellectual/educational activities, games, and exercise programs planned by the Recreation Director.
- Encourage and lead residents to assist in their community; e.g., making table decorations, flower arranging, watering plants, etc.
- Encourage and join in trips outside the facility; e.g., shopping, scenic rides, etc.
- Encourage residents to participate in religious activities to fulfill their basic spiritual needs, through attendance at religious services whenever possible, spiritual reading materials and others.
- Visit for one-on-one personal contact.
- When assigned to a neighborhood offering the Tapestry Program:
- Participate as a member of the interdisciplinary team as set forth in the Tapestry Program Mission Statement.
- Facilitate Tapestry Program daily schedule of events as assigned, while maintaining the mission of the program.
- Other duties as directed by the Recreation Director and/or Program Manager.
Requirements:
- Must be in good mental and physical condition and willing to work with residents.
- Must possess ability to motivate residents.
- Prefer some experience or passion for arts/ crafts/ creativity.
- Must have an understanding of the importance of social, psychological, and recreational needs of the residents.
- Must have the ability to effectively lead activities planned by the Recreation Director.
- Creativity and ideas for new activities strongly encouraged under the direct supervision of the Recreation Director.
- Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm and be able to work with residents based on their level of function.
- Completion of the facility’s online Alzheimer’s Training Course upon hire.
