The Community Engagement and Early Literacy Support staff person will assist in the ongoing work of Read Ready Covington, an early literacy advocacy program sponsored by the City of Covington.

The intern will support literacy programs at a variety of Covington sites, as well as public events in collaboration with RRC partner schools, centers, businesses, and agencies throughout the year. There will be opportunities to create/translate materials for programming in addition to communicating in-person, by phone, email with Spanish speaking families of preK- Grade 3 children. Because this is a developing program, there are opportunities for creativity and collaborations as opportunities develop throughout the school year.

Required Skills and Abilities:

• 
  Oral and written Spanish proficiency is preferred but not required.
• Microsoft proficiency in using Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher (Canva optional)
• Excellent Listening Skills
• Able to lift and carry up 50 lbs. across distances
• Organizational Skills
• Willingness to learn new software as needed

Duties may include the following:

• Setup, monitor, and interact with the public in relation to RRC events.
• Coordinate Incentives for Mayor’s Challenge, Read Across Covington, and Word Walk Passport program.
• Communication with RRC membership and the public orally and in written formats.
• Attend, take notes and distribute written meeting minutes to committee membership.
• Maintain accurate record keeping for activities and digital tools.
• Maintain organization of inventory and resources.
• Assist the director with delivery of program materials to partner sites.
• Other duties as they relate to promoting and supporting early literacy efforts in Covington, KY.

Hours: 20 hours a week

Position: Part time, seasonal or ongoing while in school.

Salary: $15.00/hour
