Idaho National Laboratory’s (INL) Advanced Test Reactor (ATR) Radiological Controls Operations group is seeking forward-thinking professionals interested in exploring a career as a Radiological Control Technician (RCT).

Our team works an on-site 4x10 schedule located at our ATR facility with every Friday off!

Responsibilities Include:

  • Apply a thorough knowledge of a wide range of radiological control principles, procedures, requirements and related instrumentation.
  • Provide work coverage and oversight for maintenance, operational, and routine work involving radioactive materials and radiation generating devices.
  • Monitor for radiation, contamination and airborne radioactivity in the workplace. Ensure compliance with radiological safety requirements.
  • Recommend radiation safety-related improvements to work procedures for Operations and Maintenance, or evaluate and provide recommendations on proposed hazard mitigation techniques and controls.
  • Issue "stop-work" orders when required.
  • Recommend additional training or changes to radiological control procedures to correct deficiencies.
  • Effectively use and manage work time.
  • Demonstrate professionalism as well as a strong work ethic.
  • May mentor or monitor work of more junior staff and radiological workers.
  • Provide radiological work coverage, radiological work/practices oversight and mentoring, write radiological control work permits (RWP), enforce radiological control requirements, ensure ALARA principles are followed during work and respond to radiological emergencies as an RCT and as part of the Facility monitoring team.
  • Perform required radiological surveys for free release of material from Radiological Buffer Areas and Contamination Areas; personnel surveys for contamination; surveys for contamination control, radiation control, airborne radioactivity control and surveys to characterize waste for shipment.
  • Document and review, when applicable, radiological surveys and radiological information in logs and on survey maps. Review and provide input for facility procedures concerning radiological control and ALARA implementation. Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of facility systems. Assist in writing radiological procedures and provide instruction and guidance to less senior technicians.
  • Maintain proficiency and qualifications in radiation and contamination control through completion of work, self study and training activities. Display knowledge of Health Physics theory, work practices and instrumentation.
  • Demonstrate effective implementation of Laboratory Required Documents, Laboratory Wide Procedures, work rules and safe work practices.

QUALIFICATIONS


Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma, or equivalent, and a Technical Certification or equivalent in Radiation Protection.
  • All potential candidates must either be currently DOE Core certified or successfully pass the DOE Core exam administered by BEA.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

Job Information

  • Salary Info: Jr. RCT: $31.79/hour - RCT: $39.31/hour- Sr RCT: $44.71/hour. (Rates can vary based upon individual work location, clearances, qualifications, and certifications, such as NRRPT. Rates are accurate for current posting and subject to change. These are bargaining unit positions.)
