SUMMARY OF POSITION: (Mission)

The primary purpose of this position is to drive the development and provide leadership for the Analytical Science team within the Corporate Research Organization. The position is responsible for providing strategic and tactical vision for Analytical Science to support all regions and business units.

ORGANIZATION: People Responsibilities/ reporting line/partnerships

  • Reports to: Research Pipeline Management Director
  • Direct reports: Approximately 15
  • Collaboration / Customers: Key internal customers include Research & Engineering, Quality, Regulatory, Legal, Global Growth Organization Marketing, and Supply Chain functions. These customers expect technical expertise in analytical chemistry, imaging techniques, method development and problem solving to help them achieve their objectives. Key external customers include Consultants and Research Organizations and vendors, direct and through Sourcing and Supply Management. These customers expect a clear understanding of the technology development and plans so they can focus on key deliverables.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and evolve analytical sciences and physical product testing methodology to drive business results.
  • Provide R&E leadership to deliver best in class analytical science capability for product and materials development, process and production support, method development, intellectual property and legal support, claim support, and business crises.
  • Protect and defend K-C proprietary technology and products through appropriate use of patents and trade secrets.
  • Ensure the appropriate and effective protection for proprietary information.
  • Manage people and financial resources effectively to deliver business plans.
  • Support the implementation of business practices within the R&E organization including IMF, portfolio management and resource management.
  • Ensure all work complies with corporate safety, regulatory, product safety and sustainability requirements.
  • Support customer facing initiatives to optimize business results.
  • Oversight of the chemical dispensary and the chemical management system for the Neenah and Roswell sites.

  • Oversight of the Site Chemical Hygiene Program and Hazard Communication Program.
  • Fulfill performance manager and career development responsibilities for the team that reports into this incumbent.
  • Other duties may be assigned by superior to meet business needs with or without accommodation.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education required: Normally requires at least bachelor’s degree in a science, engineering or related discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in technical, scientific, or engineering roles within a mill or other KC business units.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams composed of engineers, scientists and technicians across education and experience levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to conceive, develop and validate ideas leading to new or improved products, processes, materials, and systems based on clear science and engineering principles.
  • Ability to effectively influence across all levels in the organization to implement strategic vision and team developments.
  • Ability to lead and facilitate problem solving across teams to achieve desired results.
  • Ability to drive cross-functional alignment for multi-year plans/efforts and prioritization of efforts. Relevant product, material, process, business expertise/experience.
  • Ability to work in a matrix organization and drive collaboration across functions/departments.

PREFERRED:

  • Global knowledge / experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with synthetic and natural polymers, nonwoven and fibrous materials.
  • Familiarity with CPG (Consumer Packaged Goods) manufacturing products and processes.

R&E budget: $3 - $10 million

Capital budget: $10 - $15 million

Operating Profit: $140 million

WORKING CONDITIONS: Normal office conditions/ 25% travel etc.
