The many projects themselves will be technically challenging, touching on multiple technical disciplines, requiring an individual that is open-minded, creative, diligent, collaborative, and can quickly integrate information from various workstreams.
The position will provide the engineer the opportunity to design and develop primarily in the area of mechanical engineering in the R&D group. However, as this new VIS group is growing very fast there is opportunity to challenge the engineer to engage in systems engineering, manufacturing engineering, test method development & execution, verification & validation documentation and execution, customer interaction, and cross-functional interaction and cooperation (Quality Engineering, Marketing, Clinical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, etc.).
The ideal candidate will have years of experience being on teams bringing creative products to market, is highly motivated and has a positive can-do personality that loves to solve complicated engineering challenges for the creation of world class products.
What you’ll do on the R&D team:
  • Ground-up design of new electromechanical medical products.
  • Conceptualize, design, and develop cryotherapy ablation system console and disposables.
  • Design, build, and test new parts, assemblies, and subsystems for new products.
  • Hands-on mechanical design, detailing, documentation, and functional validation of mechanical components and related sub-assemblies or systems.
  • Create drawings and layouts in SolidWorks for concept, prototype, and manufacturing capable fabrication.
  • Define detailed requirements for mechanical subsystem and components.
  • Find and work with vendors capable of sourcing both off-the-shelf and custom components.
  • Actively participate in the subsystem integration process collaborating with other mechanical, software and electrical team members.
  • Write technical documentation including requirements, component descriptions, and test methods, verification, and validation documents, etc.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of FDA compliant Design History Files (DHF).
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.
What you must have:
  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or similar field.
  • 15+ years of experience of engineering design with Solidworks, including solid modeling, assembly, drawing, dimensioning, and tolerancing.
  • Familiarity with cryogenic systems and components.
  • Good understanding of fluid dynamics in small diameter tubing, heat transfer, and cooling systems.
  • Familiarity with design controls such as in medical device design, regulatory (FDA & MDD), and Quality (QSR & ISO 13485) issues or similarly regulated industry.
  • Experience with design specifications and requirements and verification & validation.
  • Experience with electromechanical and mechanical medical devices.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
We welcome mechanical engineering applicants who may not align perfectly with all required skills and experience as there may be opportunity to grow into the specific responsibilities of the role. However, candidate must have experience in medical devices and cryogenics.
