POSITION
: PUPIL PERSONNEL WORKER – 11 Month


LOCATION
: Department of Student Services


POSITION SUMMARY
: The Pupil Personnel Worker serves as a member of a team of professionals charged with the responsibility of assisting school age children to develop and grow into productive and independent citizens in the community. The Pupil Personnel Worker acts as a liaison between the school and community agencies in regard to communication and referrals.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
:

At the time of application, the candidate must hold or be eligible for:

  • Certification as a Pupil Personnel Worker/Student Services Worker as indicated in COMAR 13A.12.03.04.
  • An Advanced Professional Certificate.
  • Have three years successful teaching experience.
  • Have background in Guidance & Counseling, preferred.


KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  • Demonstrate ability to relate effectively to students, teachers, staff, central office, parents, and community agencies.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Calvert County Public Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Demonstrate success in accomplishing tasks akin to those responsibilities listed below.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND DUTIES:

  • Participates in team conferences with school administrators, other student services members, and teachers for the purpose of considering student, classroom, staff, and school problems.
  • Visits students’ homes to gain a deeper understanding of the families and to plan future action with parents.
  • Interprets and assists in the development and implementation of local and State Board of Education policies and practices.
  • Consults with and refers to various public and private agencies, medical personnel, and others to develop and improve health, education, and welfare services to meet the special needs of children.
  • Works closely with agency and school personnel in planning proper placement for students returning from special schools and/or institutions.
  • Coordinates all cases that require court involvement.
  • Provides group and individual counseling to students and parents, and assists counselors and other school personnel concerning student behavior and attendance problems.
  • Assists other educators in the identification of students with adjustment problems.
  • Assists staff to make decisions on special cases involving admission to school, withdrawal from school, special transfers, non-resident cases and non-entrants.
  • Gathers and presents available data, such as background information, educational, medical, psychological and social services reports, regarding a referred student to help school personnel better understand the student.
  • Assists in the coordination of the Alternative School Program.
  • Thinks, concentrates, and interacts with others
  • Comes to work promptly every day.
  • Works flexible hours as necessary.
  • Works under stress and meets all deadlines.


OTHER JOB DUTIES
: (Duties listed are not intended to be all inclusive nor limit duties that might reasonably be assigned.) Assists with other duties as assigned by the Director or Supervisor of Student Services.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Position requires significant periods of standing and walking and is performed in a typical school environment.


UNUSUAL DEMANDS
: Employee must provide travel to various worksites as this is an itinerant position; may be subject to flexible hours.


FLSA STATUS
: Exempt


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
: Eleven (11) month position and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience applied to the current Calvert County Public Schools salary schedule for teachers. All employees are encouraged to have automatic payroll deposit.


EVALUATION
: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the policy on evaluation as established by the Calvert County Public Schools.


EFFECTIVE DATE OF POSITION
: July 1, 2023

References must be directly related to educational experience and must include immediate supervisor.


State law requires that anyone hired after October 1, 1986, who will have contact with school children, must be fingerprinted and submit to a criminal background investigation. Federal law requires that a new employee must complete the Employment Eligibility Verification (Form I-9) in person before beginning employment. Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a drug screen. Current employees of the Calvert County Public Schools are exempt from these requirements.
