POSITION SUMMARY

The Psychiatrist attending oversees the quality of care delivered to his/her patients. Assesses clinical appropriateness for admission and collaborates with staff regarding potential outpatient admissions. Performs psychiatric evaluations and ongoing assessments (progress notes) for individuals under his/her care. Completes documentation necessary. Provides individual therapy, family therapy and/or medication management as needed for patients under his/her care. Appropriately requests consultation when indicated. Provides psychiatric consultation when requested. Maintains patient confidentiality and complies with all HIPAA standards. Completes all documentation requirements legibly and within timeframes established by Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules and Regulations. Participates in the multidisciplinary treatment team and participates collaboratively in scheduled staffing regarding the treatment of his/her patients. Demonstrates appropriate prescribing of medications and ensures that documentation regarding the medications complies with the facility and regulatory standards. Ensures that cases are adequately covered when away from the facility. Participates in ongoing PI activities and organization committees as assigned. Completes necessary documentation to ensure accurate reimbursement for services provided. Complies with all Medical Staff Bylaws and Medical Staff Rules and Regulations. Complies with all facility policies and procedures, CMS and regulatory requirements. Maintains professional behaviors at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduate from an accredited medical school doctoral program required; completed a residency in psychiatry; board certification preferred.

Experience: Prior experience in mental health psychiatric practice preferred

License: Currently, an unencumbered medical doctor (MD) or doctor of osteopathy (DO) licensure in the state of Texas.

Additional Requirements: May be required to work flexible hours.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Practices according to State licensure laws, & Regulations, practice and regulatory standards.

Knowledgeable regarding infection control & employee health policies/procedures.

Uses universal/standard precautions and effectively handles emergencies

Participates in performance improvement activities for the practice.

Participates in the Medical Executive Committee.

Advises and supervises Nurse Practitioners as requested.

Collaborates with leadership on decisions affecting programming, personnel, and operations, as requested and/or applicable.

Participates in the interview process for new applicants seeking medical staff appointments, as requested and/or applicable.

Participates in leadership meetings, as designated, and provides input on medical staff best practices, clinical standards, and advocates for identified departmental needs.

Fosters relationships in the community.

Works with the CEO to meet organization strategic goals and objectives.

Creates positive relationships with physicians in the community.

Maintains a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.

Works with leadership, giving a physician perspective in creating and revising company policies and procedures.

Provides requested data for reporting.

Displays knowledge of regulatory standards and state and federal laws.

Actively participates in meetings and advises the practice on medical matters.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

1. Knowledge of Medical Staff Bylaws, Consulting Staff Bylaws, and Operating Agreements in place.

2. Knowledge of facility policies and procedures.

3. Must have excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills to effectively communicate ideas/problems/instructions (oral or written) with staff, employees, and Connections Wellness Group management staff.

4. Ability to analyze situations, evaluate data, recommend/implement courses of action that would improve the functioning of systems/processes he/she is involved in.

5. Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.

6. Ability to use good judgment and keep the information confidential.

7. Ability to react calmly and effectively in an emergency.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND SPECIAL DEMANDS

1. Ability to sit for long periods (8-10 hours),

2. Ability to reach above and below the waist, turn, twist, and to manipulate small tools (copier, computer, telephone, typewriter, calculator, safe, facsimile machine).

3. Ability to see well enough to read handwritten and typewritten material.

4. Ability to stand and walk the facility grounds.

5. Ability to spend 10% of the working time outside in temperatures varying from -0 F. to 110 F.

6. Ability to handle a variety of repetitive tasks at a moderate level.

7. Ability to occasionally handle electrical, mechanical, or equipment emergencies.

8. Available to work varied hours (i.e., evenings) as required, may be on call as needed.

9. Ability to travel between facility locations, and at times, the corporate office.

10. Ability to drive a motor vehicle to designated sites.

11. Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks under deadlines and with short notice.
