We’re looking for an experienced Site Safety Health Officer (SSHO) Professional to work on a Navy / NAVFAC (Naval Facilities Engineering Command) Firm-Fixed Price (FFP) Design Build Task Order Contract for Hurricane Sally Recovery Work Package 2 at Naval Air Station Pensacola (NASP). Jacobs is the awarded prime design / build contractor on this contract for our Navy client.

This Project will provide interior and exterior permanent repairs to six (6) distinct buildings damaged as a result of Hurricane Sally. Buildings B601 and B623 are historical buildings that serve as student berthing, administrative office and classroom spaces with a student dining facility housed in B601. Buildings 3901, 3902, and 3903 serves as enlisted housing (dorm-type rooms) and Building 1080 serves as a joint dining facility.
Primary restoration work effort includes installation of a new metal roof-over-roof system on Buildings 3901, 3902 & 3903; replace shingle roof system on B623, mold remediation and put-back work in all six (6) buildings and miscellaneous interior and exterior repair work.

As the Jacobs SSHO, you will mainly be responsible for the oversight and management of the project safety and health program. You will spend much of your time in the field ensuring safe operations of both our prime construction contractor and his lower-tier trade subcontractors. Each project site (Building) has a dedicated double-hatted Superintendent / SSHO and you partner with them to ensure a safe healthy environment is maintained throughout the overall construction effort. You will actively support and contribute towards a positive safety culture and our Beyond Zero Program. Safety will be your priority, as you contribute to “incident free” operations and maintain the highest standards of Health & Safety in everything you do.

As the SSHO you will be expected to prepare materials for and conduct safety related meetings for the project, prepare safety related documentation for on-site incidents, and assist the subcontractors with enforcement of the contract safety requirements.

Additional information: This position will be 100% at the construction site working out of the Jacobs construction site project office trailer. Futhermore, there will not be a relocation offering on this role.

Here’s What You’ll Need:
  • At least five years of continuous industry safety experience in supervising / managing general construction (managing safety programs or processes or conducting hazard analysis and developing controls) related to performing and leading construction work and an understanding of safe work methodology and procedures.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Training
  • EM 385-1-1 40 Hour Training
  • Good Working Knowledge of Computers to include Outlook, Word & Excel
  • US Citizenship required

Ideally you'll also have:

  • Construction Management Experience
  • Fall Protection Training
  • Current training in CPR and First Aid or ability to obtain
  • Construction Quality Management for Contractors Course
  • Experience working on active project sites and overseeing subcontractors
  • Strong attention to detail when conducting field work and evaluating data
  • Ability to communicate concisely and proactively with coworkers, contractors, and clients
  • Bilingual to speak, understand, and communicate in Spanish
