Salary: $75,660 - $94,949

Reports To: Assistant Director - Financial Reporting

In accordance with the Agreement between Organization of School Administrators and Supervisors (OSAS) and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, the following vacancy is announced.

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Assistant Director - Financial Reporting, assumes responsibility and accountability for National School Lunch Program (NSLP), Childcare and Adult Food Program (CACFP) and Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) claim submission. Supervise and coordinate the work of Technical Series II employees. Responsible for oversite and management of NSLP, CACFP and SFSP site visitations review and corrective action plan implementations. Also responsible for the development and oversees training for OSN staff and other stakeholders related to the operation of CACFP, SFSP and Pre-k programs at the administrative and site level. Assist with compliance with all United State Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Michigan Department of Education (MDE) regulations, guidelines and programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Business Administration, Restaurant/Food Service Management, Management or related field required

  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in food service management, records management or data entry.

  • Must have at least five (5) years of previous experience supervising a team; preferably with teams of five (5) or larger.

  • Must be a proficient user of Microsoft Office 365 including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.

  • Excellent written, presentation and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.

  • Ability to coach, train, and motivate employees and evaluate their performance.

  • Excellent problem solving, leadership, and customer service skills.

  • Analytical, efficient, and thorough with attention to matters of confidentiality.

  • Ability to critically assess situations, effectively plan and implement plans, and work effectively under stress, with deadlines and changes in work priorities.

  • Ability to attend meetings scheduled at times other than normal business hours and travel to other locations.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist with Michigan Department of Education Administrative Review compliance.

  • Coordinate the Nation School Lunch Program NSLP, Child and Adult Care Food Program CACFP, and Summer Food Service Program SFSP claims submission.

  • Household Information Report coordination.

  • Prepare accountability, statistical and management reports.

  • Establish an annual Program Specialist site review schedule.

  • Direct and complete complex, technical, program analyses and present information and recommendations for continuous program improvements.

  • Ensure all corrective action plans are implemented as indicated within three days of submission.

  • Perform site reviews assessment and evaluation process for Program Specialist.

  • Keeps abreast of legislative and regulatory developments, new administrative techniques, and current issues through continued education and professional growth. Attend conferences, workshops, and seminars as appropriate.

  • Manage, direct and supervise the activities, compliance and reporting of Office of School Nutrition Technical Series III.

  • Coordinate annual audit with MDE and CACFP and SFSP.

  • Communicates with building principals on status of completion of the Household Information Report and coordinates their completion and compliance.

  • Performs a variety of tasks related to program compliance and accountability as required.

  • Perform other job-related responsibilities as assigned.
