SCOPE OF WORK:
This position is responsible to provide safe, reliable and efficient transportation of recyclable materials items and other functions associated with providing recycling services to the community.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Inspect trucks prior to beginning routes to ensure safe operating condition.
  • Refuel trucks or add other fluids, such as oil or brake fluid.
  • Fill out defective equipment reports.
  • Operate Vehicles, Mechanized Devices, or Equipment — running, maneuvering, navigating, or driving vehicles or mechanized equipment, such as forklifts, compactors and passenger vehicles.
  • Drive trucks, following established routes, through residential streets or alleys or through business or industrial areas.
  • Operate automated or semi-automated hoisting devices that raise recycling bins and secure contents into openings in truck bodies.
  • Dismount trucks to collect recyclables and remount trucks to ride to the next collection point.
  • Communicate with coordinator any delays, unsafe sites, accidents, equipment breakdowns, or other maintenance problems.
  • Check road or weather conditions to determine how routes will be affected.
  • Provide courteous customer service when picking up recyclables and maintain good working relationships with partnering businesses.
  • Performs other duties including but not limited to fulfillment of work schedules, adherence to attendance policies, and other applicable operating rules, policies and procedures. SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Ability to drive cargo trucks — Stake Side Heavy Duty Trucks; Box Trucks and 12-Passenger Vans.
  • Ability to operate a forklift.
  • Ability to operate machinery such as packaging compactors.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to accurately record and deliver information, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality of restricted information.
  • Ability to perform successfully under moderately stressful conditions, to respond immediately to crisis situations, and to balance priorities within and between work sites.
  • Ability to maintain personal composure, tactfully handle difficult situations, and interpret questions correctly; ability to behave in a friendly, understanding, helpful, and professional manner with customers and program staff.
  • Ability to explain, demonstrate and clarify to others, the understanding of the well-established principles, practices, policies and procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of computers and micro soft word.WORK CONDITIONS & ENVIRONMENT:The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.   • Work is performed outdoors, exposed to weather and in an enclosed vehicle and warehouse type building.
  • Work conditions include Exposure to Contaminants such as dust or odor.
  • Must be able to sit, walk and stand for long periods.
  • Must be able to use your hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls
  • Must be able to bend, stoop and reach.
  • Must be able to exert physical effort in light to moderate work involving lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.
  • Must wear Common Protective or Safety Equipment such as Safety Shoes, Glasses, Gloves or Hearing Protection, or Hard Hats.
  • Must be able to read, understand, and explain various forms and written material.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma
  • Three years driving experience with California Driver's License, Class C

Salary Range: $16.00-$21.81 hourly/ $2773.33-$3780.40 monthly/ $33280.00-$45364.80 annually
