The Program on the Environment (PoE) is an interdisciplinary environmental studies program that has been at the leading edge of interdisciplinary learning and teaching at the UW since 1998. The curriculum integrates a broad spectrum of social science, natural science, and humanities disciplines shaping the field of environmental studies. PoE offers a B.A. in Environmental Studies and is housed within the UW’s College of the Environment, which provides a broad interdisciplinary and globally oriented position for education and basic and applied research.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Design

  • Work closely with the PoE Director and Associate Director to help design, gain approval for, and implement a new minor in Sustainability and Environmental Justice (SEJ)

  • Work with faculty, staff, and programs across the UW Seattle, Bothell, and Tacoma campuses to publicize and build enrollment in minor


  • Communications and Engagement

  • Create website for new minor in Sustainability and Environmental Justice; create and regularly update social media accounts and publicize current news and events.

  • Engage with physical space to display and advertise materials that mirror website and other online SEJ content, including making and circulating course flyers

  • Assist with SEJ student, faculty, and community events

  • Maintain productive relationships with faculty and staff across all campuses to support administration and delivery of this interdisciplinary curriculum

  • Facilitate communication and coordination across academic units to avoid and/or reconcile scheduling or sequencing challenges within the minor

  • Monitor and triage departmental emails

  • Cross-train and serve in a backup capacity, depending on needs of program

  • Attend meetings that support learning and productive collaboration, which may include both College-level initiatives and University-wide units

  • Participate in activities that support prospective student information sessions and new student orientation for both first-year and transfer populations

  • Contribute to recruitment of a diverse student population

  • Assist with verifying minor completion requirements for students


  • This position has potential for a hybrid work schedule.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of experience in the program specialty OR equivalent education/experience.
