Job Summary

Under general supervision from the Assistant Director, this position coordinates the day-to-day activities of the Cal Poly Scholars program collaboratively with the other Program Coordinators. Independently, this position manages assigned areas of Scholars (i.e. Year 1 & Year 2 Scholars, Transfer & Year 3+ Scholars) and/or programmatic initiatives and student support needs (ex. mentorship program, academic success, basic needs support, campus connections). The incumbent must maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of constituencies including, but not limited to, students, staff, faculty, and administrators.

Department Summary

The Cal Poly Scholars program is a university-wide program to support high-achieving students from California who come from low-income backgrounds. The program provides resources and opportunities in order to assist Scholars build a personal support network for college success, foster an inclusive community of Scholars, and develop knowledge and skills for lifelong success. The Cal Poly Scholars program works collaboratively with university partners to address student retention and support academic excellence.

Key Qualifications

Ability to plan, implement and assess short-term and long-term program development, including but not limited to workshops, events, processes and resources.
Thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior.
Working knowledge of student services programs outside the program to which immediately assigned.
Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action; advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters; determine appropriate courses of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals in personal interactions of an argumentative or sensitive nature.
Ability to interpret and evaluate descriptions and explanations of problems brought forward by individuals or student organizations, analyze and define the problem, draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action.
Education and Experience

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution. Three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. A master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.

Salary:
Anticipated Hiring Range: $60,312 - $70,704 Per Year

Classification Range: $56,292 - $80,196 Per Year

This position may be "Designated" under California State University's Conflict of Interest Code. This would require the filing of a Statement of Economic Interest on an annual basis and the completion of training within 6 months of assuming office and every 2 years thereafter.
