University Housing & Dining Services ( UHDS ) is seeking a Director of Diversity Initiatives and Programs, Associate Director, UHDS . This is a full-time (1.0 FTE ), 12-month, professional faculty position.

The Director of Diversity Initiatives and Programs, Associate Director, UHDS, provides the strategic vision, leadership, and management of diversity and social justice related initiatives and programs for UHDS. Serves as a member of the UHDS leadership team and engages in discussions and selected decisions that affect both their unit as well as the department as a whole and provides overall management for the department. The Director is responsible for the vision, development, and execution of multiple programs related to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives for students, faculty, and staff within the department.

Examples include, but are not limited to, leadership in developing a diversity strategic plan for the department, assessing needs and developing DEI trainings for staff and students, developing and leading peer-led programming for students in housing and dining, and leading the bias response process in UHDS and consulting with leaders in preventing and responding to bias incidents. This position has broad discretion to make planning and implementation decisions in the areas of DEI for UHDS. Both UHDS and the Division of Student Affairs are highly collaborative organizations and it is expected that the Director develop and maintain strong and effective relationships with other departmental leaders and others within the Division and across campus including, but not limited to, the Office of Institutional Diversity, Diversity and Cultural Engagement, and the broader DEI community at OSU. Position Duties
40% Equity and Departmental Leadership, Supervision, and Strategic Planning
  • This position has a dual role in being an equity leader within the department and the Division of Student Affairs as well as providing overall departmental leadership.
  • Lead the development and implementation of the UHDS Diversity Strategic Plan
  • Direct and provide leadership for DEI policy development, research, and planning. This will include the leadership of cross-functional committees and/or task forces
  • Lead the Diversity Initiatives and Programs staff including two coordinator-level positions as well as a variety of student staff and leaders
  • Manage hiring, training, development and coaching, conduct evaluation/appraisals, request employment transactions, approve leave and attendance, assign and approve work of staff members within the unit
  • Oversee the professional development and goal setting for each staff member as appropriate
  • Account for the creation and management of an approximately $450,000 DIP budget. Contribute as a member of the UHDS leadership team in creating the approximately $80+ million budget for housing and dining, including ideas for revenue enhancement, cost reductions or areas of potential growth. Contribute ideas for the fiscal responsibility and operational accountability of the UHDS budget.
  • Participate in strategic planning efforts and implementation for UHDS
  • Serves as an associate director of UHDS providing leadership for all areas and functions in UHDS

35% Diversity Education and Support
  • This role entails direct education, the building of curriculum and oversight of peer education, as well as the creation and support of student support programs.
  • Provide primary department direction and consultation for ongoing diversity and social justice education initiatives within UHDS for students, student staff, and professional faculty and staff
  • Work collaboratively with DIP staff to develop and implement the Diversity Learning Assistant Program within UHDS
  • Develop and maintain deep collaboration with the Residential Education unit to co-develop and lead a learning and engagement framework for residential students
  • Develop/implement and lead professional faculty and staff DEI education in UHDS including collaboration on university-wide programming and education and UHDS-specific programs
  • Provide support to departmental leaders in the development of unit-level DEI plans
  • Create and implement informal and formal opportunities for outreach and relationship building for students within the department in support of creating inclusive environments
  • Develop and lead interventions addressing the needs of underrepresented communities and students of color including social justice student retreats, working with the College Assistance for Migrants Program (CAMP) internship program, and identity-based living-learning communities, amongst others

10% UHDS and OSU Community Outreach:
  • Serve on the UHDS leadership team and provide divisional and institutional leadership as appropriate. Speak on behalf of the department and executive director as appropriate
  • Represent UHDS to various constituencies, develop partnerships and programs to enhance the commitment to serving traditionally underrepresented populations and supporting on-campus programs
  • Work closely with OSU colleagues, resource offices and community partners focused on the recruitment and retention of OSU students from marginalized communities and identities by collaborating with offices such as Admissions, Orientation, Educational Opportunities Program, College Assistance for Migrants Program and Diversity and Cultural Engagement. This includes attendance at events geared toward first-generation students, as well as Black, Indigenous and people of color
  • Contribute as a member of the UHDS leadership team to manage and assess potential opportunities for increasing retention of students from year-to-year and term-to-term in UHDS facilities and programs
  • Serve on divisional committee or campus wide initiatives on behalf of UHDS as assigned

10% Bias Incident Reporting and Evaluation
  • Direct the Bias Incident Assessment and Reporting Protocol (BIARP) for UHDS
  • Serve as liaison to the campus-wide bias reporting group
  • Lead the bias response and reporting training for departmental groups
  • Serve as on-call support for bias-related incidents in UHDS facilities and/or programs

5% Other Duties
Minimum/Required Qualifications
  • Masters degree in College Student Administration, Educational Leadership, Student Affairs, Counseling, Ethnic Studies, Social Justice Education, or related field.
  • 5 years of experience in leading DEI programming and/or support of minoritized, first generation, or low income students
  • 5 years of related work experience in student services including management responsibilities
  • Demonstrated experience in working with minoritized students such as students of color, first generation students, and/or students with high financial need
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to create strong professional relationships with internal and external partners, stakeholders and collaborators
  • Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills both in interpersonal and public settings
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically about supporting minoritized students at a PWI
  • Experience and success with roles and responsibilities that require empathy and interpersonal skills that allow for meaningful student connections relevant to navigating challenging events and crisis
  • Experience and success in displaying tact, sensitivity, independent judgment, diplomacy, discretion, and flexibility in interactions and initiatives involving confidential or sensitive information

Preferred (Special) Qualifications
  • 3 or more years of successful relevant professional/progressive experience in a leadership and/or supervisory role related to inclusion and diversity in higher education
  • Written and oral Spanish-language proficiency
  • Experience implementing curriculum and professional development
  • Experience and success designing, leading, directing and implementing strategic initiatives in higher education
  • Experience in DEI policy development, research, and planning
  • Knowledge of multiple university housing functions, such as operations, facilities, marketing and communications, residential education, etc.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
This position will require semi-regular night and weekend work as well as occasional travel.
This position is deemed essential and the incumbent is expected to report to work during inclement weather, emergency and other university work curtailments or closures.
