The UCPath Center is the University of California's shared services center in Riverside, CA. The UCPath Center manages the payroll, benefits, and other human resources transactions for more than 200,000 UC employees working across ten UC campuses, five medical centers, three national labs and more. POSITION SUMMARY

The Product Manager is responsible for the overall product strategy for one or multiple components of UCPath (e.g. Payroll, Benefits, Timekeeping, TAM, ePerformance, etc.). The Manager will be a subject matter expert and understand the system (their component(s)) as well as general business processes of the locations and each team / department within UCPath and overall UC Policy. The Product Manager will use this advanced knowledge of product development practices to identify roadmap initiatives and operational improvements for the UC, quantify the benefits/impacts, prioritize initiatives, and develop robust business requirements. The product manager will be responsible for socializing initiatives, securing approvals and overall communication / engagement with the locations about UCPath. This role will work cross-functionally and require collaboration with campuses, UCPath Operations Liaisons, UCOP COEs, ITSS and the various UCPath Center Departments.

Responsibilities
  • 30% PRODUCT STRATEGY
    • Own and develop the product strategy for their component(s) of UCPath and represent product point of view and directional roadmap internally and externally
    • Identify business opportunities; define, develop and prioritize roadmap initiatives for the product
    • Bring the customer's voice into the creation process and provide insightful analyses
    • Partner with stakeholders to prioritize projects based on business needs- juggling the triangle of scope, budget, and time, weighing priorities according to the needs and objectives of stakeholders
  • 20% SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT
    • Understands the overall business processes of each stakeholder team / department (locations, UCPath production, etc.) and ability to anticipate the client's needs and concerns
    • Understands the basic system and functionality, can interpret enhancement requests and translate into user / business requirements
  • 25% WRITE REQUIREMENTS
    • Develop and document user personas, user scenarios, use cases, and detailed product requirements
    • Enough technical knowledge to speak intelligently with IT to ask the right questions to assess impact of technology considerations on product strategy
  • 25% COMMUNICATION & COLLABORATION
    • Develop and maintain rapport with stakeholders (locations, COEs, IT, UCPath departments) and effectively collaborate to understand business needs in order to design, evaluate and implement solutions to meet those needs
    • Communicates with other professionals (project managers, architects, IT specialists, and consultants) on strategy, technology and methodology related to the design and development of a solution
    • Ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of stakeholders tailoring the message / content based on the audience

Required Qualifications
  • 7 years experience as a Product Manager or equivalent experience owning, prioritizing and driving a product strategy to meet market and business needs
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word and PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Expert interpersonal skills, effectively interprets and communicates, both verbally and in writing, complex information in a clear and concise manner
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, project planning and implementation skills
  • Previous experience working collaboratively with both business and technology teams and facilitating mutual understanding and rapport
  • Ability to learn quickly, reason, synthesize and generalize based on information obtained; sound judgment; ability to draw unbiased conclusions

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft HCM application
  • Working knowledge of statutes/regulations and union agreements with respect to Payroll, Benefits, Workforce Administration, etc.
  • Experience with Shared Services
  • Experience with waterfall, agile and scrum methodologies

SALARY AND BENEFITS

Salary: The recommended salary range is $119,000 - $131,000. Commensurate with experience.
