A cross-functional support role serving as a technical liaison between Innovation, Quality Assurance (QA) and Procurement in the handling of raw material supplier approval and compliance at the direction of the Quality Systems & Technical Services Administrator

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (to include but not limited to)

1. Acts as the liaison between Innovation, QA and Procurement for raw material supplier evaluations and approvals

2. Receives, logs and handles supplier-provided samples of raw materials to be evaluated for procurement approval

3. Conducts and reports laboratory and sensory tests of prospective and existing raw materials

4. Coordinates supplier compliance with QA and Innovation requirements for new raw materials, including specifications and key certifications (e.g., organic, Non-GMO, HACCP, Kosher, etc.)

5. Assists Procurement in identification, evaluation and cataloging of potential alternate suppliers of new and existing raw materials

6. Maintains a database of approved raw material suppliers

7. Maintains a nutrition database for current ingredients

8. Organize and maintain electronic information

9. Attends professional and/or educational seminars or conferences as approved (e.g., PMA, IFT, JPA, ICBC, etc.)

10. Research topics including ingredients, products, and process technologies as assigned

11. Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• 4 year B.S. degree in Food Science, Biology or similar
• Minimum 1 year experience in a food manufacturing environment
• Proficiency with beverage laboratory equipment including refractometers and colorimeters
• Experience with beverage product testing methods including Titratable Acidity, pH, and microbiological testing
• Prefer experience with sensory testing and reporting
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point
• Self-starter with strong problem-solving and project management skills
• Ability to effectively communicate about projects with scientists and lay people

LANGUAGE SKILLS

• Proficiency and fluency in written and spoken English
• Technical writing

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

• Highly proficient with ratios, statistics and dimensional analysis

REASONING ABILITY

• Ability to perform assigned tasks with minimal direct supervision
• Ability to perform several tasks simultaneously as needed

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

• HACCP (or training completion within 90 days of hire)
• SQF audit knowledgeability preferred
