Department: Purchasing

Reports to: Supply Chain Manager

Location: Tacoma (on site four days per week)

FSLA Status: Exempt

Job Summary:

The Purchasing/Procurement Specialist is a member of the Purchasing Team. This position will, along with other team members in the department, ensure the best sourcing for all materials procured based on cost, quality, and delivery- overall “value” to the organization. As a member of the Purchasing Team, they will be involved with all facets of parts and materials inventory which may include product review, accounting, ensuring delivery (both internally and externally), counting, reconciliation, returns and all other facets of material handling as required. While based in Tacoma, this position may purchase for the Bremerton location as well based on the needs of the business.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Prepare Purchase Orders for goods and services required to facilitate the needs of the business
  • Negotiate pricing, delivery, discounts, and payment terms, to ensure best total value available
  • Solicit and analyze bid proposals in concert with the purchasing team
  • Examine requirements for products based on input from both internal and external clients
  • Review requisitions for goods and services to ensure that required approvals are in place
  • Resolve delivery, quality, and pricing discrepancies with vendors as necessary
  • Accurately code all purchase orders per instructions from Accounts Payable and Finance
  • Identify and develop alternative suppliers to improve cost, delivery, quality, and mitigate risk
  • Interface with Accounts Payable for timely resolution of purchase order/invoicing issues as necessary
  • Support the warehouse to facilitate the return of purchased goods as necessary
  • Maintain and review databases and records of items purchased including cost, delivery, quality, product description and inventory levels; Maintain current pricing and ordering information in system, update as needed
  • Participate in meetings and projects as a representative of the purchasing team as necessary
  • Respond to internal and external customers within established timelines
  • Proactively inform team of any potential delays that may impact production or customer expectations and work to find alternative solutions
  • Confer with Sales, Business Development, Project Managers, Sales/Parts, and Production to obtain information about customer needs and preferences.
  • Cultivate and maintain positive supplier relationships through clear communication and professional behavior

Required Experience & Education:

  • High School Diploma (GED/High School Equivalence Certificate)
  • 2-4 years directly related experience in the role of buyer/purchasing specialist

Physical Requirements:

  • Position requires use of computer, telephones and other office equipment, reading, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time (up to 10 hours)
