Group/Division

SPTS wafer processing solutions include market-leading silicon etch, dielectric etch, dry-release etch, PVD, PECVD and molecular vapor deposition (MVD®), available with a range of wafer-handling options applicable to R&D, pilot production, or volume production environments. SPTS is headquartered and has its main manufacturing facility in Newport, UK, with additional manufacturing in Allentown, Pennsylvania. SPTS operates across 19 countries in Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific, and offers comprehensive service and spare parts support through a worldwide network of service centers and qualified local agents.

Job Description/Preferred Qualifications

Responsibilities:
  • Create, develop, and optimize novel thin film coating processes using vacuum-based vapor deposition techniques for vapor depositing oxides, ceramics, organic, and hybrid organic/ inorganic materials
  • Schedule, plan, coordinate, and conduct both internal R&D as well as customer-related process services and demo activities
  • Characterize prepared thin films and assess results using appropriate relevant techniques such as goniometry, ellipsometry, XPS, MS, FTIR, SEM, TEM, XRD, XRF, elemental analysis, …etc.
  • Lead internal Process Engineering R&D projects
  • Support SPTS field service engineers and customers via phone, e-mail, or onsite visits for process-related aspects of customer engagements
  • Travel up to 10-20% of the time to customer sites as required to perform system process start-ups and help customers troubleshoot process problems
  • Demonstrate process technology to customers and optimize processes for customer-specific applications to meet agreed specifications
  • Plan work and execute plans in a safe, sensible, and timely manner
  • Undertake problem-solving and trouble-shooting activities as needed
  • Summarize results in both written and oral reports
  • Run marathon tests for new processes and equipment
  • Provide regular updates to R&D team on progress
  • Document and present results to customers
  • Expand the IP portfolio of the company

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related discipline
  • Direct operation experience with vacuum-based thin film vapor deposition techniques (i.e. ALD, CVD, PVD, …etc.)
  • Understanding of ALD/CVD process chemistry
  • Well-developed analytical skills including: ellipsometry, goniometry, SEM, optical microscopy, and particle measurements
  • Knowledge of theory of vacuum operation, chemistry of coating reactions, surface chemistry, and process modeling
  • Knowledge of vacuum theory and safe chemical handling practices
  • Experience performing experiments with highly air and/or moisture sensitive materials
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills
  • Goal oriented individual that can work both independently and as part of a team
  • Customer focused, flexible, and adaptable
  • Data driven and quality oriented; able to get things done efficiently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Strong computer literacy skills
  • Maintenance experience with vacuum-based vapor deposition thin film process equipment is preferred

Minimum Qualifications

Doctorate (Academic) or work experience of 0 years , Master's Level Degree or work experience of 2 years , Bachelor's Level Degree or work experience of 3 years
