The Process Engineer provides engineering support to manufacturing by identifying, specifying, and implementing actions that drive continuous improvement throughout the casting and machining process by performing data analysis and problem solving activities, which lead to the resolution of manufacturing issues.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead continuous improvement efforts to reduce scrap, increase uptime, and decrease cycle time.
  • Lead completion of root cause analysis for failures, assist in developing problem solving teams, and often champion corrective/preventive actions using formal methodologies (i.e. 8-D, Shainin, Six Sigma, Critical Thinking, 5-Why principles).
  • Lead and coach others in making decisions concerning casting and machining quality requirements and appropriate process parameter settings.
  • Analyze productivity problems and collaborate with tooling, quality, and maintenance departments to drive sustainable corrective actions.
  • Work with Quality Department to respond to customer quality complaints and engineering changes.
  • Work with Launch Team Champions to manage new program launches, which includes proper process development, product design, testing, and corrective actions during launch process.
  • Assist and often develop documentation throughout manufacturing (instructions, forms, etc.) and aid in the implementation and training the appropriate team members.
  • Manage and update process information resulting from process changes (procedures, instructions, forms and training).
REQUIRED SKILLS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education, knowledge, skills and abilities:
Education: High School Diploma or General Education Certification required, Bachelor's degree preferred.
Certifications: Formal problem solving methodology is preferred
Experience: Five or more years of relevant experience in die casting, machining, foundry, or related manufacturing industry is preferred.
Communication: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
Math: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
Computer Skills: Proficient with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Other: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Experience with Shainin, Six Sigma, and other formal problem solving methodologies preferred. Experience in the use of Lean Manufacturing Techniques preferred. Basic understanding of fluid power and thermodynamic principles. Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings such as casting, machining, and tool prints. Willing to work in office environment and on the manufacturing floor. Willing to travel to customer facilities as needed. Able to work any shift, overtime, and weekends on relatively short notice as needed. Must be willing and able to complete all required classes assigned through the training
