Job Functions:

Provide direction for Process Control Team at New Bern mill. Key Accountabilities include:

• Provide leadership for all mill control systems, including strategic/tactical planning, design, implementation, changes/upgrades, obsolescence management and support.
• Provide leadership to and management of control system engineers, suppliers and contractors supporting the mill controls system.
• Work to ensure safe, reliable and stable operation of mill control systems
• Work to optimize process systems by collaborating with operations to reduce cost and improve reliability.
• Seek to understand future business direction and anticipate strategic Control Systems technology capabilities required to support that direction.
• Support engineering group with process control expertise for effective development and execution of all capital projects,
• Develop and maintain productive relationships with company technology SME resources
• Actively support IEPM program for development of E&I resources throughout the mill
• Actively support development of training systems using simulation and digital twins for operator training and development

Be actively involved in mill safety program. Proactively lead to insure control systems are supporting safety goals and objectives.

Develop, maintain, and use reliable methods for all processes and improvements.

Assist other team members in the mill as necessary to minimize downtime and maintain quality.

Maintain and develops team relationships with operations, maintenance and engineering resources

Develops cross-functional process skills so that individual can back up Process control engineers in all areas of the mill.

Actively support operator-training needs for process area of mill and new process control engineers in the group.

Aptitudes:

Willingness to work in and support industrial environment

Willingness to provide direction and leadership for process control systems improvement

Willingness to help develop mill Process Control resources (including process control skills for control engineers as well as engineers in related fields)

Interest in developing a control system plan to improve our entire control system (hardware, software and organizational components)

Job Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering: Chemical, Electrical or Pulp and Paper preferred.

Minimum 5 years Process Control experience with significant Pulp & Paper Manufacturing experience

Broad Control Systems Knowledge and experience including:

DCS configuration and management

Familiarity with Historian configuration and management

Familiarity with advance controls.

Understanding of alarm management specifications and improvement

Familiarity with safety systems and practices

Exposure to Process Control Networks and systems supporting those networks

Field equipment used for control and systems used to manage that equipment

Familiarity with industrial instrumentation and electrical practices.

Familiarity with DCS training simulators and development of process simulations

Project management experience

Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
