In December 2017, Companion Medical launched the InPen system, a superior, cost-effective solution for multiple daily injection users that combines the smarts of a pump with the benefits of a pen. We were acquired by Medtronic in September 2020 and have an ambitious roadmap ahead which aims to combine our technology with Medtronic’s systems and continue to deliver novel and advanced diabetes- management solutions that transform the current standard of care and improve patient outcomes.
In this exciting role as a Principal Software Product Owner, you will have an opportunity to coordinate development of our medical device portfolio, which includes Mobile and Cloud applications and advanced analytics. You will be responsible for coordinating user needs from Marketing, Design and Clinical Engineering, to drive new features from development to launch. You will work with various functions to develop new products via collaboration with systems and software engineering, data science, human factors, marketing, regulatory, clinical and quality. As we deliver medical device products, you will also ensure these are developed according to rigorous quality standards and regulatory requirements.
A Day in the Life

Work directly with marketing and key stakeholders to understand and gather product requirements, address business and system issues.

Document user stories and product requirements.

Work with regulatory, marketing and program management to assess and group new features into product releases and create the roadmap.

Work with development team to plan sprints and populate sprint backlogs

Coordinate with system engineering to assign functionality to different system components and create new components as required.

Coordinate with system engineering to identify user risks and mitigate user risks.

Coordinate UX design with design, human factors team and clinical engineering to create UI designs and enumerate user tasks and use errors and mitigate use errors in the designs.

Review development outputs in sprint demos and provide feedback, upgrade missing requirements, and use cases as needed. Triage feedback and incorporate into product requirements.

Collaborate with quality, data science, clinical, marketing etc. to define and help monitor key performance indicators, product issues/complaints, and success measures and recommend solutions to improve each.

Identify and resolve conflicts in a timely manner to ensure projects stay on track.

Communicate the benefits and champion the system throughout the organization.
Must Have: Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree with 7+ years of professional experience
OR
Masters Degree with 5+ years of professional experience
Nice to Have

Ability to think strategically, solution-forward and execute methodically.

Knowledge of medical device industry practices, techniques and standards

Strong technology understanding, with knowledge of mobile and web platform design conventions and technology limitations and opportunities

Fundamental understanding of diabetes management, including insulin therapy and various diabetes technologies

Experience in UX design for mobile apps (Figma or Sketch preferred)

Excellent written and oral communication, listening and collaboration skills.
