SUMMARY/JOB PURPOSE:
The Principal Bioinformatics and Data Scientist is a highly motivated bioinformatician and data scientist who has experience in analysis of NGS data and multi-omics data collected in clinical oncology trials to inform predictive and prognostic biomarkers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide best-practices analysis of genomic data collected from clinical oncology trials. This includes QC and visualization and employing common NGS pipelines to analyze and process these data
- Staying abreast with bioinformatics best-practices as well as cutting-edge data analysis methods from recent publications.
- Support nonclinical and clinical translational data analysis and data management and serve as bioinformatics lead for clinical studies
- Maintain internal data base of biomarker data (e.g., gene alterations, gene expression signatures, immunohistochemistry protein expression, soluble protein concentrations)
- Present analysis results internally and externally in medical conferences and publish in high quality scientific and medical journals

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Education:
- PhD in the Bioinformatics discipline or related discipline and a minimum of five years of related experience; or,
- Master’s in Bioinformatics or a related discipline and a minimum of nine years of related experience; or,
- Bachelor’s in Bioinformatics or a related discipline and a minimum of eleven years of related experience; or,
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience/The Ideal Candidate will have:
- Experience with analyzing DNA-seq and/or RNA-seq data including whole genome, whole exome, SNP-array, CNV detection, identifying gene expression signatures as part of clinical development of new oncology drugs
- PhD preferred
Knowledge/Skills:
- Deep understanding of next-generation sequencing data and bioinformatics algorithms.
- Detect SNPs, deletions, insertions, CNVs, fusions, MSI, TMB
- Current knowledge of latest software and design standards.
- Knowledge of and ability to select, adapt, and effectively use a variety of programming methods.
- Skilled in different programming languages (e.g., R, Matlab, Python)
- Skilled in managing and analyzing large genomic datasets from preclinical and clinical studies as well as public genomic databases (e.g., TCGA, CCLE, dbGAP).
- Ability to integrate data from multiple sources for comprehensive analyses
- Can apply big data analysis tools and advanced data analysis techniques including different machine learning approaches
- Ability to analyze and interpret biomarker data and correlate with oncology clinical trial outcomes
- Work well in team setting
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Highly motivated and can work independently
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Environment: office work from remote location
- Travel involves quarterly visits to Exelixis sites and attending 1-2 conferences per year.
