Montage Medical Group in Ryan Ranch in Monterey, CA is now hiring a Prescription Coordinator.


SUMMARY

The prescription coordinator is responsible for reviewing and responding to prescription refill requests and following written and electronic protocols while providing patient-focused medication management services supporting the mission, activities and programs of the Medical Group.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Manage all incoming medication questions and prescription refill requests, including those received by e-Fax and phone call, provider review and/or processing in accordance with the Prescription Refill Policy and Procedure and written/electronic protocols.
  • Follow Medication Refill Protocols and Guidelines at all times, prior to responding to prescription refill requests.
  • Review the last date that a prescription was filled, bringing attention to any refills that are being requested prior to running out.
  • Schedule patients for an appointment with their provider if a refill is being requested and the patient has not been seen for an office visit as per protocol.
  • Review the medication list from the patient’s last visit to verify that the patient is still taking the medication. If the medication is not on the list, call the patient to confirm. If there are any further questions, contact the provider.
  • Contacts new patients prior to their first scheduled appointment to review and enter medications into electronic medical record.
  • Manage providers’ In-Boxes and delete unnecessary duplicate requests.
  • Manage unmatched refill requests and remove unmatched notification from the provider’s inbox.
  • Update patient medication lists in electronic medical record for provider review.
  • Communicate with pharmacies via telephone, fax, mail, etc., regarding medication changes and/or refills as directed by provider.
  • Print provider prescriptions for patients to mail away or take to pharmacy.
  • Assist clinical staff and providers with calling and refilling prescriptions.
  • Assist in the prior authorization process, including retrieving Rx ID, pharmacy benefit company, checking status, notifying patients and pharmacies of approvals and notifying RN of denials.
  • Displays effective communication skills with vulnerable patient populations. Vulnerable populations are patients who are made vulnerable due to their:
    • Financial circumstances
    • Place of residence
    • Health
    • Age
    • Personal characteristics
    • Functional or developmental status
    • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Presence of chronic illness or disability
  • Assist with daily operations of the medical group as requested by supervisor.
  • Adheres to patient-centered medical home policies and procedures in conjunction with NCQA guidelines.
  • Attends mandatory staff meetings and huddles.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Must be high school graduate or GED equivalent. Certified Pharmacy Technician. EXPERIENCE: 1 or more years of pharmacy or ambulatory practice experience with prescription refills.

PATIENT SERVICE, ATTITUDE AND LANGUAGE SKILLS

Must respond sympathetically and maturely to patient needs. Must be neat and professional in appearance. Detail oriented and well organized. A certificate from a college or technical school is preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be able to work under pressure and in stressful situations and must be able to work quickly when business conditions warrant. Must have superior patient service attitude and skills. REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

MATHEMATICAL AND COMPUTER SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Computer literate (i.e., be familiar with a PC and basic software, such as Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Word, etc.). The employee must be able to master the practice’s electronic medical record system.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS BLS certification and Certified Pharmacy Technician preferred.
