Position description

The Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology (SCET) at the University of California, Berkeley (UCB) is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar position in secondary metabolite production in plants and its purification, e.g., saponins. The Postdoctoral Scholar will conduct laboratory research as part of Prof. Clayton Radke (Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering) and Dr. Ricardo San Martin (SCET) efforts to develop novel purification methods for its use in pharmaceuticals and food.

The successful candidate will monitor secondary metabolite production of a large number of plants (collection of samples, analysis and data management and interpretation), studies on extraction and purification using different chromatographic techniques, and scaling-up of best procedures. The work also involves measuring different components found in the extracts, e.g., chlorophyl, proteins, phenolics. The postdoc will be responsible for leading experiments and communicating results through lab presentations, publications, and conferences. The postdoc will also be responsible for working and supporting student teams at UC Berkeley and collaborating with different research teams outside of UC Berkeley.
