Position Overview:
As a PM Engineer you will work in conjunction with the controller, to maximise the operational availability of equipment for the customer through timely and efficient PM servicing and machine inspections, identifying possible issue’s which may impact availability as well as being tasked with carrying out minor repairs as requested. During this role you will be an ambassador for safety, by servicing the products in a manner which promotes safety for self and customer.
Job Description:
Working within Finning’s industry leading field service department, and for the largest CAT dealer in the UK and Ireland, you will be at the forefront of the companies on site diagnostic and repair capabilities for Caterpillar products.
Major Job Functions
  • Preventative Maintenance Servicing (carrying out routine servicing of equipment in line with manufacturers guidelines, taking routine oil samples)
  • Machine Inspection (carry out visual / mechanical analysis of machine condition highlighting developing issues with systems and components including hydraulic, electrical, powertrain, mechanical)
  • Minor Repairs (complete minor repairs as identified during machine inspection, carry out installation of telematic systems, carry out undercarriage inspections)
Specific Skills
The job requires a basic knowledge of the four main product elements (Engines, Hydraulics, Power Train and Vehicle Electrics/Electronics) relating to servicing and repair of heavy mobile plant (or similar e.g Heavy Goods Vehicle)

Knowledge
Either direct experience (around 3 years) or working in a related engineering function, e.g. car mechanic, HGV fitter or a formal apprenticeship qualification that includes at least C&G level I Formal training in health & Safety desirable but not essential as further training will be given.

Accountability
  • To attend customer locations as advised by Finning Service Controller, to assess the scope of the work needed and agree with the customer work priorities and sort out safe working arrangements.
  • To liaise with Finning controller and the customer Both at outset and as work progresses, on the range of work required so that there is clarity and understanding by all parties about likely time involved, moving equipment off site, provision of replacement equipment, if deemed necessary.
  • Working cost effectively, as quickly as possible to complete the service of the product and make an assessment of the projected life of the components.
  • To ensure that all work complies with sound engineering standards and, as relevant, Finning/manufacturer specification/tolerances, carrying out inspection/checks on own work as it proceeds and ensuring that the equipment performs satisfactorily and is safe before handing back to the customer.
  • Evaluation of where, whilst servicing the equipment, there is a need for useful or essential further work in the short term, to engage the customer and/or liaise with the Finning controller so that the extent, likely cost and timing for such work can be settled.
  • To ensure that all related job and service documentation is correctly completed and any necessary signatures/documents obtained from the customer.
  • To provide additional written quotes to for the customer

Education and Experience
