Title: Facility Plumber FLSA: Non-Exempt

Reports to: Director of Facilities Department: Operations

Location: Campus

Position Summary:

Install, repair, and maintain pipes, valves, fittings, drainage systems, and fixtures in commercial structures. Collaborate with general contractors, electricians, and other construction professionals. Follow building plans and blueprints. Respond to, diagnose, and resolve plumbing emergencies.

Essential Functions

The Facility Plumber has hands-on responsibility to maintain the facilities and campus in a safe, clean, secure, and properly functioning condition, while ensuring that the overall condition of the property is above standard. Responsibilities include:

  • Assemble pipe sections, tubing, or fittings, using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, or soldering, brazing, or welding equipment.
  • Cut openings in structures to accommodate pipes or pipe fittings, using hand or power tools.
  • Pipe cutting, preassembly, or installation of plumbing systems or components.
  • Estimate time, material, or labor costs for use in project plans.
  • Inspect structures to assess material or equipment needs, to establish the sequence of pipe installations, or to plan installation around obstructions such as electrical wiring.
  • Install green plumbing equipment, such as faucet flow restrictors, dual-flush or pressure-assisted flush toilets, hot water heaters.
  • Install pipe assemblies, fittings, valves, appliances such as dishwashers or water heaters, or fixtures such as sinks or toilets, using hand or power tools.
  • Maintain or repair plumbing by replacing defective washers, replacing or mending broken pipes, or opening clogged drains.
  • Recommend energy or water saving products, such as low-flow faucets or shower heads, water-saving toilets, or high-efficiency hot water heaters
  • Review blueprints, building codes, or specifications to determine work details or procedures, operating equipment to perform responsibilities
  • Remaining responsible for all appearance, of properties that are assigned
  • Working closely and collaboratively with staff, security, and administration all to support the smooth workings of the school
  • Handling any and all responsibilities as needed and required

Experience and Capabilities

  • 3-4 years’ experience as a Journeyman Plumber
  • Must be able to work independently with little to no supervision
  • Adhere to Safety Procedures
  • Ability to lift/carry up 50 Lbs.
  • Working knowledge of state and local plumbing codes
  • Must provide at least 2 verifiable references
  • Flexibility with work schedule as required.
  • Willing to work overtime as required.
  • Must be able to follow basic safety procedures and precautions due to physical risks
  • Demonstrates interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to understand and simple instructions and operate proactively and independently
  • Excellent organizational and follow-up skills with strong attention to detail, with an ability to complete all assigned tasks as scheduled
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to adhere to procedures
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record

Work Environment

The work is regularly performed in a combination with the office site buildings and throughout the external grounds, and can be exposed to among other things, the environment, dust, odors, oil and noise.


Physical Demands

  • Workday regularly includes multiple or conflicting demands, deadlines and time pressures; Work may require sustained concentration, considerable physical effort or manual dexterity.
  • Sufficient vision (with correction) to read and to observe more distant objects.
  • Requires the ability to understand and follow oral and/or written instructions. Requires ability to lift up to 50 lbs., dexterity to use tools related to job, and working with cleaning solutions. Requires walking, standing, climbing, reaching overhead and bending.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position Monday – Friday 8am-4pm. The position may require work during nonstandard hours whenever the need or demand arises.
