Salary Range: $19.56 - $41.82 Hourly

  • Plant Operator A: $30.96 - $41.82 Hourly
  • Plant Operator B: $25.52 - $34.47 Hourly
  • Plant Operator C: $23.70 - $30.81 Hourly
  • Plant Operator D: $19.56 - $25.48 Hourly
    • Note: Operator level will be determined based on experience and certifications.

Job Summary:

The Wastewater Treatment and Reclamation Operator is an integral part of the plant operations team who will also communicate and work closely with other treatment plant staff. The WTRF Operator adjusts and monitors wastewater treatment plant equipment, monitors treatment parameters, performs process control lab tests, records data, adjusts the application of chemicals and maintains the operations of the treatment facility, prepares reports, and works on special projects as may be assigned. The position requires being able to work flexible schedules which at times will include working weekends, holidays, evenings, or "on call" shifts. The position to be filled is likely a night shift position at the Greeley WTRF. Night shift is currently a 10-hour shift, 4 pm to 2 am, 4 nights/week with 3 days off every week.

Experience, Knowledge, & Skills:

Required:

  • Ability to perform daily recordkeeping, water quality sampling, and laboratory analysis.
  • Ability to perform other functions such as janitorial and mechanical maintenance.
  • Current driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Working knowledge of applications software for Windows environment and Microsoft Office.

Preferred:

  • Two or more years of vocational technical school, or college degree with an emphasis in chemistry, biology, engineering, or wastewater technology.
  • 6 months or more experience in wastewater treatment.
  • Colorado D level wastewater operator license or higher with ability to earn higher licenses as experience and/or education requirements are met.
  • Knowledge of advanced wastewater treatment practices and laboratory water quality parameter testing procedures.
  • Knowledge of state-of-the-art equipment including SCADA systems and wastewater treatment plant instrumentation.
  • Valid Adult CPR certificate is desired.

Essential Functions:

  • Communicate face to face and by telephone.
  • Follow written and/or verbal instructions.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationship with supervisors, co-workers, and general public.
  • Ability to work along with and/or in groups.
  • Work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and other shifts/times when work demands.
  • Work independently, performing all routine plant operations and handling "alarm" situations.
  • Handle difficult situations using tact, patience, and good judgment.
  • Attend safety sessions and keep informed about safety and emergency procedures.
  • Interpret water quality/quantity data and make appropriate adjustments.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Work in varied weather conditions.
  • Potential exposure to pathogens, high noise levels, fumes or particles; risk of electrical shock.
  • Potential exposure to chemicals used in wastewater treatment.
  • Communication skills enough to convey information to supervisor, the public, or other employees.
  • Ability to interpret data displayed on computer monitors, controllers, graphs and gauges.
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop/bend, lift, and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds and make repetitive motions.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate tools, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and stoop with flexibility enough to bend, twist, and reach at all body levels, including overhead to complete necessary work.
  • Ability to accurately input, retrieve, and verify work assignments.
