WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

The person assists in planning, design, and coordination of transit-oriented development projects, transit plans, and other activities related to transit-oriented development.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

Note: The duties and primary responsibilities below are intended to describe the general content of and requirements of this job and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties.

  • Work with proposals for station area developments, reviews proposals for conformance to best-practice transit-oriented design; suggests design options for developments that will promote transit use.
  • Work with major institutional stakeholders, business and community leaders, and neighborhoods to advance major technical planning studies, working to achieve consensus for recommendations that are cost-effective, responsive, and affordable.
  • Perform technical reviews of projects, prepare reports, GIS maps, data analyses, and general correspondence.
  • Represent CapMetro in neighborhood, local, and regional planning engagement events.
  • Make formal and informal presentations to Capital Metro staff, governmental agencies, and the general public on long-range planning issues and activities.
  • Help to ensure that all planning activities comply with appropriate Federal and local regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Support CapMetro’s Safety Management Systems (SMS) process by following safety and security policies, considering safety in every action and reporting safety and security concerns.
  • Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Planning, or closely related field. Related experience may substitute for educational requirements on a year for year basis.
  • One (1) year progressively responsible experience in design/planning (or related) field, including project management experience.
  • Experience making presentations to the public and governing boards.
  • Familiarity with Federal and local planning processes, rules, and grant programs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of transit-oriented design principles.
  • Knowledge of community and land use planning, and joint development strategies.
  • Excellent project management skills, including ability to manage both staff and consultant projects and activities.
  • Excellent analytical skills, including Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Excellent graphic capabilities, including simplifying complex concepts into diagrams and comfortable operating Illustrator and InDesign.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to make persuasive and clear presentations to both internal and external audiences in potentially challenging situations.
  • Must have adept people skills and professional courteous behavior.
