The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for assisting in the planning, development and implementation of prevention, care, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for 27 intercollegiate varsity teams and 2 junior varsity team and 1 club men’s rugby program. Direct supervision of women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball and softball. This would include assisting the Head Athletic Trainer with providing student-athletes with pre-participation screenings, initial injury and illness evaluations, referrals, follow-up evaluations, wound care, injury treatment, emergency cardiac care with AED and other emergency care, injury and surgery rehabilitation, taping and bracing, practice and game coverage which includes travel and supervision of student staff. Maintain accurate, complete and timely documentation of medical records and injury documentation for each student-athlete treated. Perform additional administrative duties as assigned. This position will serve as the primary athletics trainer for a selected number of sports as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer.
Essential Functions
  • Day to day coverage of practices and games, home and away, for specified intercollegiate teams – varsity and junior varsity, which would include pre-practice/game preparation, coverage during practices/games and post-practice/game treatments and follow-up.

  • Day to day coverage of the athletic training room for rehabilitation and evaluation of injuries.

  • Office work to include maintenance and updating of medical records, documentation of injuries, treatments and rehabilitation flow sheets for each student athlete on a daily basis.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer.
Required Education, Experience, Technology Applications and Skills
Bachelor’s degree
NATABOC
NYS Licensure or eligible
CPR/First Aid/AED for Professional Rescuer certified
At least 1-3 years of intercollegiate, collision and related experience
Preferred Education, Experience, Technology Applications and Skills
Master’s degree and American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor.

Physical Requirements
Ability to: Stand, walk and move around for extended periods of time; assist with lifting and carrying injured athletes as needed; demonstrate a variety of rehabilitation exercises; work in a typical office environment using a computer, phone and other office equipment.

Able to perform CPR if required to do so.
Equipment to be used
Basic office equipment including, but not limited to; telephone, computer, copier, scanner.

AED and specific modalities as required.
