Munson Healthcare’s Private Duty staff provides comprehensive personal services for each patient’s individual needs. Munson Healthcare Private Duty services can be utilized for as little as two hours a day or as much as 24 hours a day for patients as they recover from an illness or injury or for long-term in-home care. Our Private Duty providers take care of personal care, daily tasks or even complex nursing care.

SUMMARY

As part of the Private Duty Team, drivers will transport patients ranging from those that are ambulatory to those requiring transportation while in a wheelchair for doctor appointments, return home from the hospital, frequent treatment appointments and may include long destinations of 100 miles or more. A good driving record, direct patient care experience and flexibility are important attributes for this position.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent required.

  • Possesses current Michigan motor vehicle chauffeur license, ability to drive a car, and an insured vehicle capable of transport to patient homes or other offices in various weather conditions.

  • Has and maintains good driving record with no moving violations in last 3 years. A copy of driving record will be obtained from the Michigan Secretary of State office for verification prior to employment.

  • A working smart phone is a requirement for work.

  • Clean, neat, well-groomed personal appearance and a positive, pleasant attitude.

  • Successful completion of Munson Home Health’s written Aide Competency Test prior to hire. Previous commercial or institutional driving experience preferred.

  • Must be available for flexible working schedule, working extra shifts or overtime as determined by the needs of the department.

  • Demonstrates ability to read, write and communicate effectively. Able to follow written and verbal instructions and to document care provided per those instructions.

  • Meets Munson Home Health established requirements for proof of health status. Physically able to lift 35 pounds. Demonstrates ability to move, position and transfer clients utilizing good body mechanics, lifting techniques and/or assistive devices to avoid manipulating more than 35 pounds.

  • Meets Home Health and Medicare standards as evidenced by criminal background check and fingerprinting.

SPECIFIC DUTIES
  • Supports the Mission, Vision and Values of Munson Healthcare.

  • Embraces and supports the Performance Improvement philosophy of Munson Healthcare. Promotes personal and patient safety.

  • Uses effective customer service/interpersonal skills at all times.

  • Performs all functions and activities with professionalism, confidentiality, and tact.

  • Operates company-provided vehicle in a safe, lawful manner in all weather conditions and time pressure circumstances. Keeps assigned vehicle clean and neat. Performs minor vehicle maintenance (e.g. gas fill up, fills windshield washer fluid, light vacuuming, license plate tabs placement, etc.).

  • Complies with local, state and federal driving and transportation rules and regulations. Transports clients as needed between required locations in a safe, lawful and efficient manner.

  • Follows rules and regulations for safe handling, transport and storage of any medication, equipment, and/or supplies that must be transported with the client.

  • Follows assigned route as defined and consistently meets established pickup and delivery times. Continually prioritizes work tasks and frequently must adjust work sequence to provide routine and emergent transport services.

  • Maintains a daily log of all stops and clients who are picked up.

  • Recognizes and promptly reports equipment or vehicle problems, or potential problems or conditions to supervisory personnel.

  • Reports changes in the client/patient condition to the supervisor.

  • Communicates effectively with appropriate members of the services team to ensure quality care services.

  • Complies with standard precautions, infection control, safety procedures, HIPAA guidelines, ethics, and client confidentiality.

  • Employees with e-mail are required to maintain proficiency in the basic functions of the program and are also required to regularly check email and keep calendars up to date.

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
