Summary

The Perioperative Echocardiography Project Manager works under the supervision of the Director of the Anesthesiology Perioperative Ultrasound Service.

This role manages initiatives in three major areas:

The Perioperative Echocardiography Project Manager (PEPM) manages the echocardiography QA program and improves quality of care by providing project management expertise and education in echocardiography to faculty, fellows, and residents. The PEPM will oversee the creation and maintenance a program and curriculum to improve clinical quality and provide focused education to departmental staff. Strong skills in communication and education are critical for this position.

The PEPM provides a key project connection (liaison) role between cardiology and anesthesiology that fosters consistency, coordination, and communication between the disciplines/departments.

Additionally, the PEPM is responsible for analyzing, creating and implementing resource management processes - ensuring that equipment is configured properly and operating within normal limits.

The PEPM is responsible for management, performance, and completion of moderate to complex projects. This individual identifies appropriate resource needs and develops schedules to ensure timely completion of project deliverables.

Responsibilities*

Quality Assurance

The PEPM works closely with the Directors of POCUS and TEE Clinical Services and QA/QI to:

• Manage and coordinate peer-review processes
• Assemble quarterly QA meetings
• Perform compliance audits for societal and IAC standards and guidelines
• Assure studies are properly acquired, indexed and archived in the medical record
• Manage all complaints or concerns about quality of service

Education

The PEPM offers a unique perspective on echocardiography by working closely with the Director of POCUS Education to facilitate and manage:

• Mentoring faculty and fellows on topics such as: infection control, image acquisition, measurements and calculations (linear measurements, doppler measurement, aortic stenosis, etc.), and advanced imaging and analytic techniques (3D, HeartModel, QLab, Ultrasound Workspace, Strain).
• Creating teaching modules & content

Technology

The PEPM has responsibility for managing, analyzing needs and implementing processes for echocardiographic equipment by:

• System configuration & back-up (networking configuration, DICOM servers, image archiving servers (Syngo, Qpath)
• Exam protocols and system presets
• Inventory monitoring
• RFID tracking & retrieval
• Proper deployment, retrieval, and disinfection systems
• Exercising extensive knowledge of the C-PACs system as a superuser - assisting physicians in learning the system for interpretation, measurements and calculations.
• De-identifying studies and preparing images for presentation and educational purposes.
• Operates Q-Lab, Heart Model and/or Ultrasound Workspace
• Collaborates with Philips, Sonosite and other clinical specialists to train physicians on these applications.

Required Qualifications*

• Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree in relatable field.
• 2-4 years of professional experience with at least 2 of these years related to project management work.
• Candidates should have knowledge of UM policies and procedures.
• Demonstrated success with process implementation and project management in a team environment.
• Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated ability to set priorities, manage multiple tasks and competing deadlines, and strong attention to detail
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work collegially and collaboratively both in a team environment, as well as independently, effectively collaborating with faculty and peers

Desired Qualifications*

• Prior sonography experience with echocardiography procedures/services.
• Prior experience in transthoracic, transesophageal and/or stress echocardiography
• Working knowledge of specialized Philips clinical applications, namely: Q-LAB, Heart Model and Ultrasound Workspace.
• Demonstrated equipment/supply control & process management
• Previous responsibility for technical training or instruction

Work Schedule

Given the close support of clinical providers and workflows, typical shifts are Monday through Friday, between 7am and 5pm. Work is mostly on-site with some ability to work remotely.

Background Screening
