We are currently looking for a full-time Payroll Specialist. The Payroll Specialist is responsible for processing payroll for hourly and salary employees. Assists the Payroll Supervisor as needed.
Responsibilities of the position include:
  • Assists in processing payroll for salaried employees.
  • Handles some system related problems and updates the payroll system and operating system efficiently.
  • Assists in managing the electronic timekeeping system.
  • Responds to numerous questions from employees regarding payroll related matters and policies.
  • Helps with the process of monthly insurance reconciliations.
  • Processes wage garnishments and child support orders in payroll system.
  • Maintains good relationships with school personnel while working to enforce payroll policies and practices.
  • Helps prepare monthly general journal entries and assists with reconciling the payroll ledger accounts.
  • Validates the accuracy of 401k hours and earnings reports for mid-year and year-end testing.
  • Aids in conducting annual workers compensation and 401K audits.
  • Assists the Payroll Supervisor in completing IPED reports for all campuses.
  • Provides numerous reports, including monthly overtime and employee count to corporate Vice Presidents.
  • Prepares Quarterly wage surveys required by the state.
  • Maintains the accuracy of fiscal year local tax, vacation accruals and payroll accruals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements of the position include:
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Three to five years of payroll experience. Accounting knowledge required.
  • An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.
  • Experience to include all payroll programs and electronic timekeeping system.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and work under pressure with deadlines.
  • Knowledge working with Microsoft programs such as Excel, Word, Outlook, and Explorer.
  • Knowledge of employee benefits, Section 125 plans, 401-k plans and state and Federal labor laws as well as knowledgeable of human resource laws.
  • Ability to be proactive and problem solve is essential.
  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to hear and speak well enough to communicate with students, faculty, and staff face to face and via the telephone.
