Summary:
The Payroll Specialist at Mustang Extreme Environmental Services (MEES) is responsible for the management of all payroll functions. This role provides accurate processing, recording and auditing of the MEES’s multi-state payroll, processes payroll and tax forms and resolves payroll issues. Additionally, the Payroll Specialist will assist with other HR functions such as new hire onboarding, benefit enrollments, and compliance.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Ensure accurate and proper processing of all bi-weekly and semi-monthly payrolls.
  • Reconcile payroll to the general ledger and monthly bank statements.
  • Issue, or reissue, pay checks due to payroll errors or final discharge.
  • Review and audit timecards to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations as well as company policy.
  • Assist with the completion of the year end W-2 processing in accordance with IRS regulations.
  • Complete new hire onboarding tasks such as run background checks, send new hires for pre-employment testing, verify I-9s, etc.
  • Set-up all new hires in the HRIS system and ensure all job and pay information is correct.
  • Assist in the administration of the benefit plan such as employee enrollment, changes, and terminations.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with all MEES employees.
  • Any additional tasks delegated by manager.

Requirements, Knowledge and Core Competencies:

  • Associates Degree in accounting or related field and/or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of progressively responsible accounting and payroll related experience with a solid understanding of exempt, non-exempt, seasonal, and overtime processing
  • Ability to understand, explain, interpret, and apply payroll rules and regulations and other work-related documents.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Strong verbal, written, and analytical skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management while exhibiting a high degree of emotional intelligence
  • Ability to navigate at an advanced level in a Windows® environment including above average proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Ability to develop specific goals and plans in order to prioritize, organize, and accomplish required work.
  • Ability to efficiently communicate with business partners, supervisors/managers, peers, or subordinates in verbal or written form.

Working Environment:
Typical office working environment necessary to perform all essential job functions with reasonable accommodations compliant with EEOC enforced ADA guidelines. This position is primarily indoors, consistent with a standard office position and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. Outdoor activities may include travel to clients’ project sites and local and out of state offices of the company and its customers as necessary.
