CTL|Thompson Inc. seeks a Pavement &* Materials Staff Engineer *for its Lipan Street office in Denver, CO who desires to specialize in both Pavement and Materials Engineering. The successful applicant will work on residential, commercial, industrial and municipal projects in the Colorado Front Range and Rocky Mountain region. Time in the soils and materials laboratory and some in the field will be required for this position. Management of projects, review of work by staff and coordination with clients will all be required. A professional engineering license (P.E.) is preferred with at least 1 to 5 years of engineering and laboratory experience as related to soils, asphalt, concrete and aggregate materials.

Work will be primarily geared toward projects; however, client service and staff coordination will also be required. The position has a high opportunity for advancement and specialization in a unique segment of the geotechnical engineering community.

Duties will include:

  • Field evaluation and design of asphalt and concrete pavements
  • Coordination of field coring and deflection testing
  • Forensic evaluation of projects that have asphalt, concrete or subgrade issues
  • Engineering analysis for mix designs, aggregate qualification and laboratory qualification (including ASTM and AASHTO procedures)
  • Review of asphalt and concrete mix design submittals for approval
  • Writing and reviewing proposals, reports, and letters
  • Attending project meetings, both in house and with clients
  • Managing projects including field work for technicians
  • Communicating with our team and clients
  • Participation and involvement in local and national professional associations (i.e. NAPA, CAPA, MGPEC, TRB, ACI, CRMCA, ASTM, AASHTO)
  • Billing

The offered position will likely be Staff level but will depend on experience and ability. Pay will be based on experience and assigned duties. The ideal applicant will have (or soon have) a valid, Colorado professional license, a B.S. in civil engineering and about one to 5 years of experience with soils engineering and laboratory testing. In addition to strong engineering skills, this individual must possess an understanding of construction methods. The drive and ability to provide client-focused service is required. Design and construction experience with asphalt, concrete, aggregates and structures is desirable, especially local experience. Good writing and communication skills are essential. Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.

Materials Staff Engineers are paid an annual salary between $45,000.00 and $80,000.00 plus discretionary bonuses.
