Job Description:

This position is responsible for billing, follow-up, and resolving issues that delay or prevent payment of the patients account within Intermountains policies and procedures.

Practice Details:

As a Referral Rep, you need to know how to:

  • Obtain referral request from physician.

  • Ensure patients have been cleared for specialty service office visits. Resolve precertification, registration and case-related concerns prior to a patient's appointment. Verify insurance coverage or lack thereof for patient. Obtain authorizations if needed from insurance coverage.

  • Gather pertinent information from insurance carriers, financial counselors, and other ancillary staff to make certain the patient's financial obligations for services provided.

  • Complete referral paperwork, including copies, and fax to medical office.

  • Contact patient regarding referral information and give name, location, telephone number of specialist.

  • Return referral to physician for signature of completion.

  • Act as a liaison between hospitals, physicians, health plans, vendors, and patients, or other referral sources.

  • Cover as a Patient Service Representative as needed.


Minimum Qualifications


Required
High School diploma or equivalent is required

  • Minimum of one (1) year of front office or revenue cycle experience in a healthcare organization, required

  • Demonstrated understanding of health insurance and medical costs, required

  • Proficient computer and communication skills, required


Preferred

One (1) year customer service experience is preferred One (1) year experience in related/medical field is preferred Understanding of Medical Terminology is preferred
