Under the general supervision of the Director of Acute Care, is responsible for performing various duties and tasks as requested for the care of patients.

This is a full-time position working day shift, 36 hours per week.

Responsibilities

Professionalism

1 Displays ability to work as a team member, is able to take direction and be accountable to assist shift team to accomplish all care priorities. Demonstrates understanding of work schedule reliability and proactive communication to nursing team dynamics
2 Adheres to standards and applicable codes of conduct that govern behavior among peer and colleagues to create an environment promoting cooperation, respect and trust
3 Maintains professionalism by adhering to the Huggins Hospital dress code
4 Continues professional growth by maintaining education hours for license renewals
5 Maintains BCLS certification

Cinical Competency

1 Under the direct supervision of a nurse, provides timely direct patient care activities to include assisting with hygiene and activities of daily living according to established policies and procedures and unit standards
2 Performs delegated nursing orders and treatments according to Huggins Hospital's Procedures within one-half hour of ordered time
3 Performs and documents vital signs, height, weight, intake, output and reports any changes out of range of normal
4 Obtains laboratory specimens as appropriate, i.e., finger stick glucose testing, urine specimens and prepares for transport to lab as necessary
5 Assists the residents in ambulating, transferring from bed to chair, turning and repositioning in bed as necessary using safe lifting adjunct equipment and good body mechanics
6 Responsible for timely restocking of rooms, department supplies and unit cleanliness
7 Performs Housekeeping, laundry, meal prep and meal service duties as assigned, while utilizing best practices of infection prevention

Patient Advocacy

1 Sets the stage for a positive resident interaction by always introducing self and clinical role
2 Answers patient call-bells promptly and courteously
3 Facilitates resident and family centered care via clear communication of plan of care and educating at a level the resident, family and/or caregiver can comprehend
4 Care given to all patients addresses the age of each patient as well as the physical, psychological and individualized learning needs
5 Recognizes and utilizes appropriate resources for non-English speaking residents, healthcare illiteracy and hearing and sight impaired individuals
6 Take proactive steps to recognize and report suspected abuse/neglect including, elder, sexual abuse, spousal abuse, and reports to supervisor and/or appropriate authorities

Quality

1 Adheres to Infection Prevention standards, consistent in hand hygiene practice before and after each resident interaction. Holds team members to IP and hand hygiene standards
2 Participates in quality review within the department, utilizes evidence based best practices, and participates in performance improvement projects


Qualifications

Education: High school graduate/GED
Experience: 1 year experience as a PCA preferred
BLS required
