Position Summary
Pathway Mentors will be assigned to support Brookdale students, special emphasis on the needs of students at the regional locations. Additionally, Pathway Mentors will be assigned to participate in community events and outreach efforts weekdays, evenings and weekends providing workshop and group sessions.Description of Duties

  • Manage and monitor a specific caseload of students, serving as a support point of contact providing consistent, accurate and timely information about the College’s policies and programs.
  • Provide individualized interventions addressing academic and life issues, by identifying and responding to adjustment problems, learning difficulties, basic needs, and other barriers to student success. Refer to other internal and external resources as needed.
  • Contribute to cultivating an environment of belonging where students flourish.

Pathway Mentor primary focus for college students support, retention, and completion

  • Caseloads may include students and families who may need additional interventions for learning support, retention, and student success.
  • The caseload may include assignment to student groups such as but not limited to: ESL, First Gen College Students, or any programs deemed necessary to fulfil the program priorities and goals as established by the department.
  • Communicate and provide multilingual access and understanding of college guidelines, policies and processes to families and students.
  • Active outreach to, planning with and attending community and cultural events to enhance relationships outside of normal business hours.
  • Collaborate with Student Affairs, Student Services, and related offices and programs within the Brookdale community.
  • Supports and collaborates with student clubs, specific academic programs and college student support and retention initiatives, as assigned, providing additional support for program planning, execution and follow-up assessment.
  • Collaborates with other college departments and offices in securing mentorship opportunities within varied academic fields, connecting students to opportunities with leaders in the field, collaborating with faculty and staff on creating an impactful learning community.
  • Bilingual/multilingual speaking, reading and writing abilities preferred.

Minimum Qualifications
Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.

Preferred Experience:

  • Three years of working experience within a related area of expertise.
  • Experience interacting with community and social service organizations in Monmouth County.
  • Working experience in a Higher Education environment.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational, time management and accountability skills.
  • A commitment to a culture of caring.
  • Proficient using asynchronous communication applications for contact and willingness to learn additional varied platforms.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare regular reports.
  • Program planning, management and coordinating/implementation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse and vulnerable populations.
  • Proven skills in examining and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of student outreach, support and retention strategies, programs and procedures. Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals.
  • Proven computer proficiency in utilizing and applying Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel.
  • Day, evening and weekend availability.
  • Bilingual Skills (written and spoken).
