The City of Clayton is seeking a Part-time Plans Examiner. As part of the Building Division, you have the advantage of partnering with the community from a municipality leader in the metropolitan area and the opportunity to contribute to the overall success of the local community. As the Plans Examiner, you will have a vital role in the Building Division that works closely with inspectors, permit technicians, planners, and other departments to ensure compliance with adopted codes and municipal regulations. The ideal candidate should have prior experience in performing professional and technical plan reviews for residential, multi-family dwellings, commercial buildings, and other major structures for structural soundness while adhering to all appropriate codes. Minimum Qualifications for the Part-time Plans Examiner Position:

  • Post high school education in the field of architectural or engineering studies, construction management or a building trades program.
  • Possess a technical knowledge of the ICC family of codes. (Preferably the 2015 or later code cycles).
  • Possess a level of competence and comfort with varied computer programs and applications with a preference for prior experience with government permitting software and Bluebeam.
  • Must have a minimum of five (5) years Plans Examiner experience, or seven (7) years as a building inspector, five (5) years as a licensed architect or engineer, or even seven (7) years construction experience, or any education/experience combination thereof.
