Job description
This is a part - time position that typically works 30 hours per week.
- Serve as a courteous public ambassador, providing information about parks and recreational programs to the public, city departments, agencies, organizations, and stakeholder groups.
- Participate in community engagement activities, conduct tours, community outreach, and help administer surveys to collect feedback.
- Conduct daily inspections of parks, grounds, amenities, recreational facilities, and open spaces by vehicle and/or on foot.
- Monitor issuance of municipal park permits, special event permits, and facility use permits for code compliance.
- Coordinate work orders for multiple parks, facilities, community centers and special events; report problems concerning safety, security, sanitary conditions, and maintenance needs.
- Post signage and flyers.
- Document and report permit violations, abandoned items on city property, trash, and incidents of graffiti and vandalism.
- Submit and monitor work orders to ensure timely maintenance and repair of parks and recreational facilities, including lights, equipment, signage, grounds, landscaping, etc.
- Open and/or secure parks and recreational facilities, restrooms, and gates.
- Operate equipment and assist with recreation event-related set-up and tear-downs.
- Prepare daily logs and maintenance observation reports, and other reports as required.
- Provide administrative support including answering phones, acting as a courier, conducting research, and providing general information to the community.
- Identify, remove, transport, or dispose of hazardous materials to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for the public.
- Assist in emergencies such as fire and hazardous weather conditions.
- Assist in emergencies involving injury or illness by notifying proper authorities; conduct basic first aid; administer automated external defibrillator (AED) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) when required.
- Follow safe working practices and make appropriate use of related safety equipment as required.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Experience:
- Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California Driver License with a satisfactory driving record (a driving record may be deemed unsatisfactory for any of the following reasons: three or more moving violations or reportable accident within the last three years; conviction of driving under the influence within the last five years) is required.
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of appointment, and maintain, a valid CPR certification is required.
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of appointment, and maintain, a valid First Aid certification is required
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of appointment, and maintain, a valid AED certification is required.
- Incumbent will be enrolled in the California Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) Pull Notice Program. The DMV Pull Notice Program provides information on the incumbents driving record and driving record status on a periodic basis to the City.
- Must be willing and able to work various hours including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Must successfully complete a pre-employment background investigation and a physical and drug screen.
