About the Role
As a Parent Educator in our Longview HOPES Program, you will deliver services based on the Parent as Teachers Program model, including home visits, parent support groups and periodic developmental screenings to eligible client families. You will also Provide families with information regarding child development and effective parenting techniques with sensitivity to cultural and socio-economic needs of each client. Positively present this program and the need for such programs to the local community. Serve as a resource for program collaboration, the community, and other BCFS programs.

What You'll Do

As a member of our team you will have an impact on our clients through accomplishment of the following responsibilities:

  • Recruit and engage families to receive services and determine family eligibility.
  • Coordinate home visits as prescribed in the Program for the purpose of observing and providing information to parents.
  • Perform approved developmental screening tool on all children in case load and document and report results.
  • Provide resource and referral services linking families with community resources and support systems.
  • Utilizing Parents as Teachers curriculum, conduct parent education either in the home as well as delivering monthly parent support groups while ensuring fidelity to the model is maintained at all times.
  • Manage caseloads and, timely and accurately prepare various documentation for the purpose of providing information required for program compliance.
  • Establish appropriate relationships with families that are based on equality and respect.
  • Work with the families to build on the families' strengths to effect needed change.
  • Maintain organized and accurate case records and timely submit required reports that meet contract and BCFS policies and procedures.
  • Model appropriate adult/child interactions to families.
  • Serve as a Project HOPES Ambassador to the community.
  • Work effectively with diverse family types; exhibit cultural sensitivity; affirm cultural, racial and linguistic identity.
  • Receive appropriate supervision from the Program Supervisor.
  • Maintain compliance with all Buckner policies, procedures and requirements. Maintain compliance with all policies and procedures regarding confidentiality and reporting of abuse and neglect. Maintain compliance with all state and federal laws and regulatory requirements.
  • Work successfully as part of a team and responsible for developing then maintaining strong working relationships with co-workers.
  • Attend staff meetings and training as required. Participate in all required staff activities, including retreats.
  • Perform general office tasks as required.
  • Perform special assignments, projects, and other duties as required.

What You'll Bring to the Team
To be successful in this role and a great addition to our team we need you to come with the following:

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree; an Associate's degree plus 2 years of work experience or a High School Diploma (or G.E.D.) plus 5 years of work experience in a related field.
  • Requires proficient ability to speak, read and write English.
  • Requires ability to relate cross-culturally and with varying socio-economic groups in a variety of settings and contexts.
  • Requires ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with client families, other Parent Educators, clinicians, community members, resource providers and other BCFS clients, administration, and staff.
  • Requires ability to speak clearly and make self understood in face to face interactions and on the phone; to articulate with accuracy, to receive verbal instructions, answer phones, etc. with some background noise.
  • Requires ability to understand and relate to the theories behind several related concepts; ability to remember verbal and written tasks/assignments from a few hours to long periods of time (months).
  • Requires ability to effectively work under pressure and remain flexible as priorities change; ability to prioritize tasks in accordance with duties and responsibilities assigned.
  • Requires personality attuned to the requirements of meeting the needs of the clients and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with client families, other employees and the public.
  • Requires ability to work under minimal supervision while exercising sound judgment and confidentiality.
  • Requires extensive vehicle travel including extensive driving times and distances in service area. Some overnight stays required. Requires ability to obtain and maintain current documentation necessary to travel and lease vehicles in various locations.
  • Requires ability to transport clients in company or personal vehicle when client and community resources are not available.
  • Requires ability to drive assigned vehicle(s) or personal vehicle, with appropriate state license, following all laws applicable; must provide proof of liability insurance and must be eligible to be insured under Buckner's insurance policy. Employees must be at least 21 years of age to drive on behalf of the Company.
  • Requires ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Requires proficient working knowledge and ability to accurately and timely operate and perform computer related tasks with specific equipment and software applications, including, but not limited to, word processing, spread sheets, desktop publishing and graphics.
  • Requires commitment to Christian principles and teachings both professionally and personally.
  • Requires ability to use up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or 10 pounds continuously to move objects and/or people.
  • Requires ability to walk, stand and sit, sometimes for prolonged periods of time. Requires ability to squat, stand, climb stairs, kneel and twist. Requires ability to sit and drive for prolonged periods of time.
  • Requires sufficient good health to properly discharge duties. Employees shall not be permitted to work who have infectious disease or skin lesion for the duration of the communicability.

Preferred Qualifications
In addition to the amazing qualifications and experiences listed above, if we had our say, we would also look for:

  • Prior work experience in education, child health and development, child abuse or neglect, and/or parent education preferred.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience using community resources preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with in-home visitation preferred.
  • A willingness and desire to build and maintain awesome working relationships with your coworkers, volunteers, and the community served in the Project HOPES Program.
