Job Summary:

The PE Para is responsible for organizing games and challenges that promote physical activity among children and young adults from kindergarten to high school with and without disabilities. The PE Para should have an awareness of evidence-based age-appropriate physical education curriculum and instructional strategies, enthusiasm for innovative practices, willingness to participate as an active member of a multi-disciplinary team, and possess the ability to adapt activities in order to incorporate the diverse strengths of students.

This position has the potential to cover more than one campus.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Implement physical education activities aligned with Sunshine State/Common Core Standards that have been designed and planned by the PE teacher.
  • Support individual students motor skills/fitness levels and create adaptations as needed.
  • Provide input on goals/objectives and current status for IEPs (as appropriate)
  • Utilize various organizational and motivational strategies that promote maximum participation.
  • Ensure students learn the relationship between health and wellness with the components of healthy nutrition.
  • Conduct required number of physical education classes weekly.
  • Communicate with PE teacher team, classroom teachers and therapists on special requirements for individual students.
  • Consult with teachers to ensure behavior plans are carried over during Physical Education instruction.
  • Performs other Duties as Assigned
Qualifications

Education and Training:

Prefer experience working with students with and without disabilities in a multi-disciplinary setting

Minimum Experience:

  • Prefer Associate Degree or comparable college credits. Minimum High School Diploma

AND

  • 45 Hour Department of Children and Family Training - if working with PreK
  • First Aid/CPR Certification

Experience providing PE services to children.
