Laurel Heights Hospital is
a 112-bed facility located in Atlanta Ga. We are dedicated to providing youth with compassionate mental health treatment that encourages self-responsibility and personal growth. We provide psychiatric treatment to children and adolescents that present with a broad range of psychiatric, behavioral disorders and autism. A clinically skilled multidisciplinary team works to partner with the youth and family to accomplish their goals in a supportive and therapeutic environment.

The PARAPROFESSIONAL responsibilities are:

  • Meeting with patients/students first week of admission
  • Orienting new students to re-set classroom each month
  • Selecting appropriate de-escalation materials for individual students
  • Demonstrating needs of students with special learning needs.
  • Working with teachers to receive instructional materials for individual students.
  • Maintaining appropriate data collection on individual students
  • Documenting attendance in re-set room on monthly basis
  • Maintaining all academic work for students’ teachers/files and educational records as requested.
  • Serving as a role model for others
  • Consistently interacting politely and in non-adversarial manner.
  • Regularly sharing observations regarding specific students to teachers.
  • Demonstrating an understanding of and utilizes treatment interventions and knowledge of protocols.
  • Communicating effectively with multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrating knowledge of human growth and development as well as psychopathology. and competencies related to hospital policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates knowledge on basic computer competencies.
  • Maintaining an orderly and clean environment.
  • Punctuality and adhering to attendance and PTO policies.

Qualifications


Education: High School Diploma with a minimum of 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours of college courses completed from an accredited educational institution with 30 semester hours in general education core curriculum, child development and/or psychology. Preferrably candidate has completed the Paraprofessional test with a license from the Professional Standards Commission.

Experience:
Previous experience working students with Autism.

Licensure/Certification:
Successful completion of New Hire Orientation (includes CPR certification, age-specific training and the current patient aggression management training).
