Position Summary:

Assist in various paint projects including: preparation of surface and application of paints, paint projection systems, striping, and assembly of VIP design books, vinyl applications as well as day-to-day operations and organization.

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Assist in preparation: 20%

  • Prep aircraft, aircraft parts and components for paint
  • Operate the various sanding booths
  • Assist in stripping parts, priming parts and preparing surfaces for the application of finishes
  • Taping, masking, striping and the order in which colors and finishes are applied
  • Learn to clean guns, pots and other tools

2. Prime and paint : 20%

  • Apply finishes to aircraft and components
  • Mix paints and primers
  • Understand the impact of temperature and humidity on finishes
  • Operate the various paint and curing booths
  • Assist with hanging of parts, movement of aircraft and transport of aircraft components

3. Touch up and paint aircraft and components: 20%

  • Buffing surfaces and touch up operations
  • Brush skills and the application of paint to fine detail components
  • Detail and prepare aircraft for delivery

4. Support functions: 40%

  • Assist the paint department with consumables management
  • Assist the paint department with PPE management
  • Operate paint projection system to aid in striping
  • Prepare VIP design books to be delivered to customer
  • All other duties assigned by the Manager, Paint Operations

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualified Experience / Skills / Training:

Education

Required:

  • HS diploma or equivalent. Some trade school desirable. An A & P license is desirable.

Experience

Required:

  • Minimum of two (2) years related experience; some experience may be substituted for education normally acquired in the attainment of an A & P license or a degree directly related to paint.

Licensure/Certifications:

Preferred:

  • A&P
  • Must communicate verbally and in writing in English as well as work with non-English speakers. Knowledge of Spanish is a plus.

  • Microsoft Outlook

Travel Required:

  • 10% Domestic and International

Citizenship:

  • Authorized to Work in the US

Decision Making, Complexity:

  • All decision are made under direct supervisor of paint staff

Organizational information:

  • Reports to Manager, Paint Operations

Job Dimensions, Contributions to Success:

  • Works on and around commercial aircraft whose finishes are among the most important element in a successful delivery

Nature of Contacts:

  • Moderate Communication on a regular basis with internal parties only

Physical Requirements:

  • Onsite: 90%
  • Vision: able to see and read computer screen and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings.
  • Hearing: able to hear to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on production floor including safety warnings or alarms.
  • Speaking: able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications.
  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some tools including production tools such as hydraulic lifts.
  • Carrying: able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
  • Lifting: able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
  • Pushing / Pulling: able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools.
  • Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on computer.
  • Squatting / Kneeling: able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.
  • Standing: able to stand for discussions in offices or on production floor.
  • Travel: able to travel independently and at short notice.
  • Walking (include routine walking such as to a shared printer to retrieve documents): able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces.
  • Personal Protective Equipment required: Required PPE includes, but is not limited to, Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Respirators/Masks, and/or Protective Gloves as required by site and/or customer site
