Position Summary

Coordinate the Eastern Regional Advisory Committee (ERAC).

Plan and conduct organizational, provider, and community education.

Facilitate trauma performance for the region.

Enhance communication and information sharing among trauma providers.

Facilitate trauma research.

Participate in the State Advisory Committee (STAC).

Responsibilities

1. Coordinate the Eastern Regional Advisory Committee (ERAC)

Assure compliance with state law regarding the development and implementation of the ERAC through familiarization with the legislation and ERAC bylaws, interacting with the NC Office of Emergency Medical Services, ensuring the committee work is accomplished, pursuing grants as warranted, networking with ERAC members and other providers in the region.

Organize and staff quarterly ERAC meetings and committee meetings which includes meeting notices, securing a meeting place, arranging food, preparing the agenda, arranging the room, preparing member packets, preparing speakers, participating at meetings, following-up as needed.

Maintain a current database of regional participants and ERAC membership and officers (includes terms of membership/office).

Submit and update the regional trauma systems plan to the NC OEMS which includes organizational structure, goals and objectives, membership listing, system evaluation tools, public information and education plan, trauma system protocols, transfer agreements, and documentation of regional support.

Recruit and orient new members to ERAC through personal contact and correspondence, participating in seminars, providing information for review, involving on committees, capitalizing on the strengths in their communities.
2. Plan and conduct organizational, provider, and public education.

Work with the ERAC Provider/Public Education Committee to coordinate regional education.

Establish a regional education plan including strategies to address education of EMS personnel, physicians, nursing and allied heath providers, hospital leadership, business and community members and legislators.

Create a regional database of outreach programs to identify gaps and opportunities to maximize resources.

Develop new programs and update current programs.

Deliver education to the region through personal presentations and the establishment of a speakers bureau.

Develop a process to evaluate the effectiveness of education programs.

Investigate funding sources to promote regional trauma education and effective care delivery and complete applications for grants/other funds.

Develop a marketing campaign to increase community awareness of regional and local trauma care services.
3. Facilitate Trauma performance improvement for the region.

Support the ERAC Quality Management /Guidelines Committee.

Identify trauma guidelines currently in use and revise as needed based on the consensus of trauma providers.

Develop additional guidelines as needed to address regional trauma care.

Establish a mechanism to provide written and verbal feedback on referrals.

Establish a trauma audit process to evaluate care using benchmarks and outcomes to structure the review process.

Develop mechanisms to address the issue of patient confidentiality.

Coordinate meetings to conduct morbidity and mortality review.

Network with the Central Injury Surveillance System (CISS) staff to obtain data.
4. Enhance communication and information sharing among trauma providers.

Support the ERAC Communications Committee.

Establish a communications plan for the ERAC.

Implement communication strategies such as an annual report, web page, newsletters, to inform the region of trauma systems issues and opportunities for involvement.

Provide education to legislators regarding key issues impacting trauma care and prevention.
5. Facilitate trauma research.

Support the ERAC Research Committee to facilitate the identification, development and evaluation of trauma research studies.

Disseminate research materials and protocols to appropriate regional providers to enhance trauma care.

Promote opportunities for multi-institutional research.

Establish a plan to incorporate local injury data into the CISS.
Participates in clinical trails by knowing and following specific study protocols, providing on-call coverage, initial screening, enrolling, consenting and documentation of study related procedures.
6. Participate on the State Advisory Committee.

Attend quarterly meetings, representing the ERAC.

Participate on subcommittees addressing confidentiality, funding, or databases.

Network with NC RAC coordinators and incorporate best practice models.

Call attention to regional issues that need to be addressed by the state level.

Act as a resource to other RAC's coordinators.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree in nursing required- or higher. Current NC RN licensure is required.

Master's degree in nursing, education, health care administration or other health related field desired. 5 years experience may be substituted for Master's degree

Minimum of 6 years experience as a clinician in trauma unit (ED, ICU, critical care transport program), staff and leadership positions in trauma related areas. Strong background in teaching/presenting. Functioning as committee chair/member. Coordinating research projects/grants. Participating in audit review processes.

Experience with curriculum development and teaching helpful.

Experience with performance improvement and quality data analysis.

Previous or current experience as pre-hospital provider strongly desired.

Strong verbal and written skills required.

Current TNCC provider with instructor and coordinator status obtained within first two years.

Other Information

This is a full-time days position, Monday-Friday 8am - 5pm, with occassional teaching/outreach requirements outside of these hours.
