Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.
For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description
UCSF Outdoor Programs provides access to outdoor activities as a means of balancing a busy school and work schedule by providing logistics, equipment and instruction when necessary. UCSF Outdoor Programs instructors enhance the participant’s experience thru natural and human history knowledge of program areas, by providing assistance with camp craft and managing group activities in a safe environment.
Required Qualifications
- Current Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification and Standard First Aid or the ability to acquire within 1 month of hiring
- Working knowledge of program activity practices and procedures
- Verbal and written communication skills in the English language, active listening, dynamic flexibility, critical thinking, multi-task and time management skills
- Ability to exercise independent sound judgment and employ reasoning skills
- Client service minded, entrepreneurial spirit and creative thinking skills
- Ability to perform physically challenging work in the outdoors and in all weather conditions
- Commitment to continued learning about outdoor environments and a desire to teach and interpret the outdoor environment
- Willingness to be coached and openness to feedback
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid and current driver's license
- One year of experience in working with people in a leadership environment
- Basic skills in computer programs relevant to job duties
- Knowledge of campus policies and procedures
- Strong swimmer (when applicable for programming)
License/Certification
- Current Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification and Standard First Aid or the ability to acquire within 1 month of hiring
