The Division of OSH Compliance is seeking an OSH Industrial Hygienist I in the Health Branch. This position performs entry-level duties to detect, evaluate and control occupational health hazards in places of employment.

Duties of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Learn to write reports of inspections and investigations and recommend the issuance of citations and penalties to employers; begin minor inspections.
  • Assists industrial hygienist in conducting routine health inspections and investigations.
  • Learn to utilize sampling techniques and calculations to document hazards.
  • Learn to recognize, sample, and cite violations of KY OSH standards.
  • Learn industrial hygiene standards and techniques.
  • Attend professional training courses to develop competency in the field of occupational safety and health.
  • Develop skills to calibrate and use sampling equipment.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in industrial hygiene, chemistry, physics, engineering, environmental health, biology, environmental health technology, engineering technology, or a related field.

Working Conditions
Work is generally performed in an office setting when preparing reports or evaluating inspections. Travel is required to conduct inspections. Potential exposure to health hazards. When conducting workplace inspections, employees in this job title are exposed to the same working conditions as those employed at the workplace. Exposure to chemicals and potentially harmful or hazardous materials.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 12 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
