Position Summary: This position is responsible for assisting the Low Vision Optometrist, Vision Solutions Center, and Low Vision Occupational Therapist, and to handle all related matters in the Low Vision Services area.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, but not limited to:

• Answers all phone calls and schedules appointments
• Calls doctors for pertinent patient/client information including client eye medical report.
• Inputs and maintain clients/patient information in the in-house database system (Apricot). ·
• Requests appropriate transportation for patients/clients.
• Tracks status' of grants

• Manages and maintain hard files for low vision
• Keeps client data up to date in our Apricot Data Management System
• Maintains, creates and reconciles invoices and billing statements
• Conducts patients intakes to obtain information (personal/medical questionnaire).
• Performs administrative duties such as filing, copying, typing referral letters for doctors and ordering equipment for patients/clients and low vision office.
• Completes Low Vision Patients STS packets and doctor letters.
• Provides Miami Lighthouse reception desk coverage as needed
• Visits eye care professional and appropriate community groups to distribute information about the programs at Miami Lighthouse when needed

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School diploma or equivalent. Associate’s Degree preferred.
• Must have prior experience in a medical office or health care setting.
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
• Knowledge of insurance billing practices.
• Be proficient in use of computers including Microsoft Office and Internet research.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish required.
• Excellent telephone skills and etiquette.
• Ability to exercise good judgment and maintain professional demeanor at all times
• Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality with regards to protected Miami Lighthouse and client information.
• Must be able to successfully pass a drug test and criminal background screening
• Experience in an optometry, ophthalmology or optical office is a big plus.
