Job Title: Production Technician
Department: Rensselaer Production
Starting Pay: $20.00 an hour
GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB: Employee operates and monitors the packaging machines on the production lines. Performs periodic checks to ensure quality standards and trouble shoots light mechanical problems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Operate and stock packaging machines.
Verify manufacturing process and quality standards.
Trouble shoots packaging machine problems.
Maintains required production and quality documentation.
Complies with safety rules and regulations.
Cooperates / assists co-workers as required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and at least 1 year of manufacturing experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job during a 12-hour shift. Occasionally: Use a stepladder to load over wrap.
Kneel/crawl to check materials and machines.
Reach above shoulder height to load over wrap.
Push/pull up to 100 lbs. of finished product and packaging material.
Regularly: Stoop/bend to pick up rework, boxes and over wrap.
Climb stairs to the mezzanine, catwalk over the lines.
Twist while doing rework and loading supplies.
Lift/carry up to 50 lbs.
Frequently: Use hands.
Lift/carry up to 10 lbs.
Talk/hear in order to give/get direction.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
This job requires ability to work day and / or night shifts.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to caustic chemicals, and to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
