Accountability: Operations Manager II (Division Manager) must oversee tasks of various departments’ operating processes within the operations. Support and provide feedback to Regional Manager regarding safety, staffing, customer, employee, and facility needs. Provides training to team members to increase skills and provides backup to multiple departments as needed. Provide performance feedback through coaching and monitoring to all employees. Perform audits on various operations and evaluate processes as required. Ability to rotate between working days, nights, or mid shifts including weekends as scheduled or as needed to be directed by management. Accept and demonstrate corrective criticism as well as enforce accountability to employees of policies and procedures. Ensure the overall operations meet the company and customer safety and compliance ratings.

The Operations Manager II (Division Manager) must have proficient knowledge/experience in the following areas:

  • Knowledge of vehicle and equipment safety
  • Knowledge of record-keeping system (Input driver identification number/scanning new vehicle).
  • Knowledge of OSHA, AAR in addition to Company and Customer Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Knowledge of Divisional, manpower, and equipment capabilities.
  • Knowledge of Company Intranet (Employee Depot).
  • Knowledge of Company Housekeeping Guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with established HR Policies and Guidelines.

The Operations Manager II (Division Manager) must demonstrate the following skills:

  • The ability to perform duties, when given general direction with limited discretion.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop teamwork and work with all personnel levels to achieve switching operation objectives.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with team members along with internal and external customers.
  • Follow company guidelines for achieving and maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
  • Ensure compliance with appropriate training for all employees under their direct supervision.
  • Basic computer data entry and retrieval skills (Microsoft Word and Excel).
  • Basic business, math, oral, and writing skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

Physical Requirements: Able to perform physically strenuous work. Self-motivated with good communication skills. The requirements of this position involve extended periods of strenuous physical activity under various field and weather conditions. Applicant must be able to lift, carry, stand, walk on uneven surfaces, manually manipulate, grasp, reach out, climb, kneel, bend, twist, and push/pull within confined spaces. Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 80lbs. Able to push and pull with up to 150lbs. of force. Travel as needed with 24/365 availability

Environmental Conditions: May perform duties in outside, job-site environments, in and around moving locomotives, railcars, vehicles, and equipment as well as inside office environments. Frequent exposure to weather elements travels as needed and appropriate PPE is required for job site and for site visits. Work is performed indoors and outdoors in varying types of environmental conditions.

Major or Unusual Problems: Development of expanded customer base for switching services. Maintenance of teamwork within automotive operations and with the company and corporate groups. Achieving timely and expedited deliveries to customers often in situations beyond the control of the switching operation.

Job Dimensions: Manages subunit of switching operations within a company of 1 – 100 employees depending on volume demands.
