This position is a grant funded position. While this position will work alongside the City of Ontario, it is not considered a City of Ontario position. Therefore, the successful incumbents will not be considered City employees and are not eligible for any City sponsored benefits. In lieu of City sponsored benefits, successful incumbents are eligible for a program-funded benefit package that includes healthcare, childcare (space is limited), and mileage reimbursement for the duration of their assignment. An Education Award (valued up to $10,000) is awarded to those incumbents who successfully complete all required service hours.

The job duties typically performed by the Youth Mentor include the following:
Plan structured and meaningful mentor activities- Implement one-on-one and small group mentoring
- Attend regular mentor trainings provided by program
- Collaborate with program staff to monitor mentee progress
- Serve as a mentor and positive role model to target mentees
- Report weekly on mentee contact logs and other important documents
- Appraise mentee progress using evaluation instruments provided by program.
- Create and manage a schedule to ensure all mentees receive appropriate hours
- Participate in team meetings and other events promoting the AmeriCorps identity
- Plan, implement and report on service projects to strengthen communities
- Participate in and reflect on community service experience
- Participate in ongoing service specific trainings
- Create and administer pre- and post-surveys with program participants
- Assist with other duties as assigned
Education
High school diploma or recognized equivalent.
Experience
Interest in being a role model, specifically helping youth develop soft and hard skills.
Desirable
Bilingual in Spanish.
Special Requirements
Must have reliable transportation and be able and willing to travel locally as needed.
Must be able and willing to work full-time (approximately 35 hours per week), for the duration of the program beginning in October 2022 and ending in October 2023.
Must complete a minimum of 1,700 hours throughout the service period.
Must be able and willing to work evenings and weekends when required.
Must be prepared and able to work on-site and/or virtually as required.
Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance as required by the AmeriCorps program.
Must follow City of Ontario and AmeriCorps code of conduct and policies.
Background Investigation
Candidates must demonstrate the ability to successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation conducted by the Ontario Police Department.
